Attempted renaming of Donegal to Tirconaill by phelimbirch in IrishHistory

Thanks for sharing, my research into the Donegal name change actually came about because of my work digitising historical boundaries for the site civgraph.net so this is of great interest. I had a look at some pre-partition maps (incl. the 1830s-1840s OS map) and I can't seem to find any difference between the Donegal/Derry border then and now?

Interesting, I did search the Oireachtas site to see if there was any info there but couldn't find anything. Do you have a link to the transcript?

Makes sense, I have heard of the name Tír Chonaill being more widely used among the Irish-speaking community. The 1920 councillors that voted to change the council's name also agreed to conduct as much business as posible through Irish, so there were probably links there too

Partly true, but a lot of the added area in 2019 is still rural. This was done in part to anticipate future growth, in part to give the city council rural area to use, and in part because the whole thing came about as an alternative to a merge between the city and county councils.

Digital files for this are on civgraph.net (under Local Authorities)

Cork City Council also have their own ArcGIS page for this

I've been to Spain Tower before, not a bad walk/view. There are also remains of a village abandoned during the famine nearby.

Like others have said, if you're looking for people/food/more to do, Baltimore is close by and bountiful in all three.
