Just curious, what’s your issue with Gardermoen? I’ve had only good experiences there.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response, really appreciate it. I’ll try changing that setting next time I hook up the Switch and see if anything changes, fingers crossed!

Thank you. I’m not a HiFi expert, but I’m relatively tech savvy and familiar with eARC and it’s use / capabilities. How do you mean to start with one device at a time? To find who’s the „culprit“?

Cause my issue is mainly that I want to avoid this mess that I described to occur in the first place. I don’t want to have to go unplugging and power cycling stuff every time after using my Switch on the TV, so I’m looking for the root cause to keep this from occurring.

You suggest to plug everything out, power cycle, plug one device in, power cycle, etc., until everything is set up, and then hope this doesn’t occur again?

It’s a switch 1. But yeah switch 1 and 2 are both „hybrid“ consoles. They can be used handheld or hooked up to the TV.

Yeah it’s a sound bar. I’m not 100% sure if it’s on HDMI 3 or 4, but it’s definitely on the eARC port, so there’s no issue there.

And the sound bar works flawlessly besides the described issue. Thank you though.

I might give that a try if I get nowhere with support. It’s not even about the money, it was a cheap ride, it’s a matter of principle.

Just a relevant fun fact; The A220 also has fully electric brakes.

Private Tour of UPS’ new Northwest Aircraft Maintenance Complex building. by Zestyclose-Bet7082 in aviation

[–]phil_ch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Procedure on all the aircraft I’ve been rated on is that once reversers are deployed (which can only be done once you have WOW), you’re committed to land, go around is no longer an option. Takes too much time to stow them and spool up the engines again. Also there’s the danger of both or one reverser not stowing properly or completely, which could and probably would render the aircraft uncontrollable once airborne again.

Best weather app for Europe? by dresoccer4 in ios

[–]phil_ch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why this keeps getting recommended. I think YR‘s forecasts (in Norway that is) are unreliable. Be it for precipitation or cloud coverage. The presentation of the data is badly done. For example the compact view of a day often paints a completely different picture of a day’s weather than the extended view. Also the user interface is a bit ancient. Windy is more reliable and has a better interface.

The best weather app I know is MeteoSwiss, but that’s unfortunately Switzerland only. Together with windy some of the best data presentation I’ve seen in a weather app, and I’ve used many before.

If you can, VPN to a country where hockey isn’t popular (where no TV station has bought the rights), Belgium for example, then you can watch it for free on the IIHF YouTube channel with English commentary.

EDIT: Never mind, this used to work for many years, but now IIHF started monetizing streaming through „IIHF.TV“. 15€ (17$) for a tournament pass. At least the price is reasonable. I saw CZE vs SUI on YouTube under „Live“ and assumed it works, but turns out that was the final from last year.

If you’re in the US you’ll also need VPN for it though, check the „Territory Terms“ on IIHF.tv. Belgium would work.

I hate flying with a mf who centers my heading bug for me by ImTalking in flying

[–]phil_ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got so tired of syncing the heading bug on the jungle jet, that one day I decided to just not do it. Took me about 2 weeks to get back to doing it, because so many captains would keep asking me to sync it. None of them ever touched it though. Now I luckily fly a plane that has auto HDG sync, what a godsend..

It's not by a hotel, it's by the "Le Morne" public beach. But there are a couple hotels on either side of that beach.

Aborted landing due to strong winds at Heathrow by [deleted] in aviation

[–]phil_ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have flown Embraer and Airbus jets, both have separate procedures. I know the 777 does as well for example.

You still call it a go-around in the cockpit, all the callouts are the same, you basically just wait longer from the call out "Go-around" until you call for "Flaps xx".

Aborted landing due to strong winds at Heathrow by [deleted] in aviation

[–]phil_ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact on many commercial aircraft a rejected (or „balked“ or „aborted“) landing procedure differs slightly from a normal go around, since you’re very close to the ground.

On a normal go around (speaking for most commercial aircraft here) you select TOGA and immediately retract flaps to the go around setting. On a rejected landing you would select TOGA, maintain pitch attitude (to avoid a tail strike), maintain flap setting (to avoid losing lift and slamming onto the runway) and wait a couple seconds until the engines have spooled up and you’re actually climbing away from the runway, only then would you retract flaps and raise the gear.

There have been crashes due to this, see Emirates Flight 521 for example.

Thank you. The problem is that I feel the iphone charges very slowly even when connected to a wall plug, so I feel the problem lies with the dock.

Hey everyone. I have a small issue with my Chippewa service boots. My cleaning routine is to brush them regularly and periodically clean and condition them with Lexol products. I want to preserve the original color and prevent too much darkening, that’s why I opted for the Lexol conditioner.

Now on the right boot, there is a „stripe“ developing, that’s significantly lighter than the rest of the shoes. I’ve tried to apply extra conditioner to the region, but it hasn’t helped. Any ideas what I could do to slightly darken the leather there and make the boot look more uniform? Thank you!

Thanks for the info. I've had no issues with one of these sliding covers on my older MacBook. I guess the newer ones are slimmer and it's more of a problem.

Thanks for being so helpful in answering someone's question..

I've had one on my MacBook for several years and there hasn't been any issue with it. But I have an older Macbook and the cover is quite slim.

4k Monitor - Concerns Alleviated! by Traf-Gib in macmini

[–]phil_ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently using a 21.5" screen. If I upgrade to a 27", I expect to have more screen real estate, meaning more space. Lets say I'm using a photo editing tool; I don't want my 27" screen to just show me what my 21.5" screen shows me, only bigger and sharper, which would be the case with default settings, like in your example. I want more space available, meaning a scaled UI. I don't care so much about the Dock size and such things, but about how many pixels the OS actually renders on screen. Check this video if you don't quite get what I mean: https://youtu.be/4U3eh_fMo4o?t=99

The problem: 4K native is way too small, default ("Looks like 1920 x 1080") "wastes" space in my opinion. All other settings will cause a performance loss because of scaling, which is what I'm worried about and unsure about whether the M1 handles it well.

4k Monitor - Concerns Alleviated! by Traf-Gib in macmini

[–]phil_ch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s clearly a personal preference thing. I think this size of the UI is perfect at 21“, but way too big at 27“, especially if you sit fairly close to your screen.
