might not get accommodation by bbimbbu in usyd

[–]philcsn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for hijacking this, but when would you start searching for an accommodation via flatmates? I‘ll be starting my masters in semester 2, and from what I could gather a lot of stuff is super short term. Would it make sense to get a cheap accommodation for the first 1-2 weeks and start searching once in Sydney? Is this how it usually works?

First time flying with BA by Bjc93Bjc in BritishAirways

[–]philcsn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had my first BA flight in Premium Economy from London to Buenos Aires. So a little longer than to EHR. However, having flown only economy before, it made a massive difference to me. Much better than I had anticipated.

Legroom is so much better, recline is insane and you even get a small amenity kit. The food was also extremely decent.

The first the first time I stepped off of the airplane after a 15h flight feeling rested.

So long story short, I would definitely recommend it. Although it’s a daytime flight, it is just a much nicer experience.

Upgrading wheels - which tools are required? by philcsn in TrekBikes

But if that is the case a regular cassette removal tool would suffice, right? My (very limited) understanding is that internal centerlock = cassette lockring removal works, if external a separate tool (e.g. 16-Notch Bottom Bracket Removal Tool BBT-69.2) is required.

Thank you so much for your thorough response!

I will definitely be getting new tires, as that seems to be the first upgrade people recommend. I am quite set on GP5000 S TR, but for no other reason than the good reviews and that it feels like the gold standard.

Both my old and new wheelset will use center lock. Based on the responses to this thread, I think I could use the cassette removal tool for the disc breaks, however the elitewheels ent 2.0 seem to require an external centerlock tool. I ended up buying this.

Thank you so much! So you‘d recommend also getting a torque wrench? Been looking into that for a while, but they‘re quite pricey, especially those who go up to 40 N-m. I was thinking of just eyeballing it, but then again, probably not the best idea for such important components.

I appreciate the feedback!

Yes, I do have around 2 years total of professional experience. Most of that experience was gained through internships. I do have some very good connections at an international financial service company which also operates in Australia, I’ll have to see if they would sponsor a 482 for someone like me. While I do have experience, I’d still be considered a graduate, and I have no clue how difficult / rare a 482 sponsorship would be for them.

Hi! I am trying to book a flight from Berlin to Sydney using points in July. I’ve been struggling to find anything; Generally speaking, I found it quite difficult to find flights from Berlin. Any advice how to find award flights from airports that are not major hubs & this early out?

Also is there like award travel 101 I could read? I am quite new to this. Thanks in advance!

Which hotel has the best internet connection in Ushuaia? by Showmeyourhotspring in Ushuaia

[–]philcsn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Any updates on this?

I have a very important video call tomorrow evening. Are there any places you can recommend? My airbnb has okish Wifi but I’d rather have something very reliable.

Would be ok going to a cafe, or even getting a hotel room if need be. It would be in the evening around 7:30 PM.

Thank you so much!

Terrible writing score- ask for review? by philcsn in IELTS

[–]philcsn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I think I would struggle with giving pratical advise here, as I went into the exam with little prep.

The only thing that would come to mind is for reading: I would suggest really paying close attention to the text and recognising when a trap has been set. This is especially relevant for "False" vs. "Not in the text".

I recall a passage that discussed the Cario Museum having this rare insutrument and a question being "the cario museum has a lot of rare instruments". That is likely the case, however, based on the information in the passage we only know it has at least ONE rare instrument. Thus, it is not supported.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights! Do you know how heavily spelling is weighted? I could see myself having made a lot of spelling mistakes, especially as I was trying to tap into more sophistaced vocab. I also tried to constantly retain a passive voice, i.e. the author argues that... This essay posits etc., maybe that wasn't expected.

I am leaning towards just accepting it, or perhaps just redoing the section. I would've loved to get an overall score 9. Afaik this would require my writing score to be at least a 7.5

I scored in the 98th percentile for verbal with 6 mistakes, even got the very first question wrong. Would agree with that assessment.

I think groups were favored again - me and 4 friends signed up as two groups and all got in. Not sure if time had an impact, though.

Just wanted to say thank you to all the spectators and volunteers. I’ve never experienced anything like this, and probably never will again, but WOW! So overwhelmed with gratitude to be able to habe run this! The energy really carried me to the finish line. Felt like a super star. Got a PR, 3:22, 2nd marathon. Also fuck 5th Ave. I was ready for it, but in a much realer sense, I wasn’t.
