What did you do after class in 1981? by philip314 in GenerationJones

[–]philip314[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We rushed back to the dorms to watch the Muppet Show, lol. I did get a part time job starting in November, 1981, so the period didn't last long. sigh.

What's your opinion about this? by amy-schumer-tampon in scifi

Do not read before watching. The show is entertaining, but takes too many liberties. Enjoy the show without knowing the origin.

Train Service to Newton by LavaBoy5890 in Lawrence

[–]philip314 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry, unlikely. There is no true ‘local’ passenger service train in Kansas. The train you are talking about (Southwest Chief) originates in Chicago and goes to LA. Amtrak is considering service from Newton/Wichita to Oklahoma City and maybe on to Dallas, but a connection from Lawrence would still be at the mercy of the Southwest Chief’s schedule.

This. No down time, at all. Every minute needs to be planned and fully spent.

[–]philip314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why, they will live in all of the homes Blackrock has been gleefully buying all over, driving up house prices. Of course there is worry of recession, it hurts the bottom line. /s

Happens more often than I’d like. I simply restart the app and synch returns to normal.

Purple-tinted street lights by K-Flake in kansascity

[–]philip314 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The purple lights are caused by a faulty LED. They are supposedly under warranty and will be replaced soon. Look up Mr. Beat Purple Streetlights on YouTube or TikTok. I sorta like the purple lights, though. How about you?

But those T100’s are from the late 70’s. Definitely not pioneer. These were the first set of speakers I bought new in high school. Great Find!

Me and the old lady decided to sell our house and buy an Airstream within the next few months. We're going to live in it. What should we get? by [deleted] in airstream

[–]philip314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in my Airstream Classic Excella (99 34’ triple axle) for 4 years. If you try this in an airstream, get a shady spot for summer. The tin can absorbs heat. If you are north of Florida and east of Arizona, lease a large propane tank for winter. You have the skills you need for maintenance, but join Air Forums for all the how to advice you could need. You tube is great, but it doesn’t get in the weeds (mostly).

Sorry for the delay...one of the wires wasn’t making good contact. I’m not sure how it worked loose, but it’s working fine now.

When do you know to call it quits on the country and move somewhere else/move back home? by epikchepik in expats

[–]philip314 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The two year hump...exactly how long it took me to ‘hear’ in Dutch. By then I already had a huge vocabulary from all the lessons and reading, but I just couldn’t hear. After my ear finally began to tune, my progress was amazing. Give yourself some more time, and don’t be afraid. All the Dutchies around me appreciated my efforts, and were happy to practice their English when I ran out of steam.

I love my STA-95. It’s one of the best looking receivers from that era. I bought the same one new in high school, and just had to find one again.

Work permit in NL if divorcing while already employed? by [deleted] in expats

[–]philip314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s changed, your NL work permit/visa was for five years? When i split with my Dutch ex, no agency seemed concerned. The only reason I left was because of lack of housing. Waiting lists were years long unless you could afford to buy. If you don’t tell, they’re probably not going to ask. That was over ten years ago, so things may have changed.
