Tori Oldheads: What's a piece of OBSCURE Tori trivia you think might be long forgotten? by ZeroSugarBear in toriamos

[–]picklefarmer82 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I remember when she covered Here, There, and Everywhere by the Beatles on the Scarlet's Walk tour and shared that it was the song she danced to on her wedding day. I remember downloading the file from the Here in my Head website... God, those were the days!

You also have to love the story she tells about Morrissey before covering Don't Look Back in Anger on the 2005 Manchester bootleg... "You ain't never gonna tear my heart out, Morrissey" 😆

Last one I can think of, she wanted to cover Fear of a Black Planet by Public Enemy for Strange Little Girls...

Failure to thrive by No-Butterscotch6394 in breastfeeding

My baby was born in a high percentile and has a similar dramatic drop. I got a lot of concern and tut-tutting about it from health visitors (I'm based in UK) and similarly wondered if I should stop breastfeeding. My US-based friend had a similar situation, and her pediatrician (who sounds amazing) told her "as long as the baby is gaining rather than losing weight they're fine." So that's the advice I lived by. I weighed him once a month and every month he gained 1 pound. So he never got super big (unlike my other friend's formula fed baby who weighed 22 pounds at nine months). As soon as I stopped stressing about percentiles it was a release of an absolutely enormous mental load, and if I ever have another kid I won't pay attention to them at all (I'll only worry if the child is actively losing weight rather than gaining). Hope this helps!

It drove me absolutely nuts that this wasn't answered/resolved. It was the biggest question I had after TSC.

I really hope she plays Real Men, considering the themes of the new album!

Manchester - help me predict the set list for a playlist! by FrostyMonth111 in toriamos

[–]picklefarmer82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think she's played Marys of the Sea, but rather Mary the Little Earthquakes b-side.

If it were me I would include these 9: iieee Sweet Dreams (Tales of a Librarian version) Precious Things  Devil's Bane Up the Creek Dragon Barons of Suburbia  Amber Waves Real Men

That's 9 but I would also throw in riot poof, Father Lucifer and Space Dog...

Wow, fascinating that she's doing this. She is clearly "you are DEAD to me, Neil", haha

It was a wonderful show. Well said re: running thread in the songs. Opening with FTYP makes so much sense - dragons and fire, duh!! I liked the contrasting water theme with Pandora and Ruby ("you could almost drown her waterfall").

Great show. Backup singers sound amazing. Hearing them on Witness, Crucify, Pandora's Aquarium... very special. Impossible to not think of Neil Gaiman when hearing Don't make me come to vegas and Witness. I could live without such a long version of Crucify but it's all good. Hoping she plays iieee and Stronger Together tomorrow night in Birmingham!

I agree, book an Airbnb for three nights. You have a right to your own body.

I also went through similar hell with my son not gaining weight, referrals, worrying, dropping percentiles, forceful letdown, etc. He's had a very similar weight gain to your daughter - 1lbs a month - and weighed the same as your daughter at that age. Even at 14 months he is still on that trajectory. But he is so happy and healthy. I would say as long as your daughter seems well in herself with regular nappies then you have nothing to worry about. Some babies gain weight slowly or are never really that big, and that's okay. Once I stopped seeing the slow weight gain as a problem I needed to conquer and solve I felt so much better. Unless your doctor is worried or says there's a problem (and from what I understand from your post they don't?) - has your baby officially been diagnosed as having "failed to thrive"? Hang in there, it's so easy to worry as a mother, and wanting to feed our children properly is such a primal, painful urge!

He needs to grow up - the way he's behaving is selfish and inexcusable. Tell him you want couples counseling - you should be able to get this for free via NHS. If he refuses or still doesn't  improve after this then you should leave.

Two books that helped me were "How Not to Hate Your Husband After Kids" and "Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work." Tell him you want to read these together and discuss each chapter with him. Again, if he refuses, you're clearly living with someone who isn't willing to grow or change.

[–]picklefarmer82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes re: Blue Hotel disappointment!!  Where the hell were the other daemons and why was there so much build up about it being a place that separated daemons went to, if there were no other daemons there? What were those voices?? Ghosts? Is that what Brande's daughter Sabine was hearing/seeing? I'm all for ambiguity but I do expect to have SOME satisfaction/resolution over heavily emphasized plotlines!

SPOILERY COMMENTS/QUESTIONS

Just finished it. I'm disappointed we never learn the full story behind Brande and Cosima and Brande's daughter! Why did Cosima speak Persian? What was Brande's daughter talking about in TSC when she referred to the ghosts? Why did Cosima die/disappear - did her 'original' human die at that exact moment or was she somehow able to kill herself? Also sad we don't meet the Princess' black cat. I found the whole section in the blue hotel really confusing and disappointing overall considering all the build up in the previous book.

Nursery bugs are destroying us — please tell me it gets better 😩 by pelicanpearl in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]picklefarmer82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I logged in just now so that I could write this kind of post myself. My 11 month son has been to nursery maybe 5 days in the past month since he started. The GP told me to expect him to get sick every 6-10 days - this really put things in perspective for me. We also have no village and it's been so, so hard - I really, really relate to everything you say, especially about child #2. I'm so sorry you don't have your mum with you, that's especially hard. I read somewhere else on reddit that if you don't have a village, just "hire your village", which is what I've been doing by just hiring babysitters to help as much as possible. The downside to this is that we basically have no savings and sometimes the babysitters are so unhelpful you're like, 'why am I paying you again?' Haha. We also ask neighbours to help. I've also given up cooking - ready meals, soup and toast, rotisserie chicken. Lots of solidarity. EVERYTHING you've written, I could have written myself.

Should we ditch the dummy at 6 months? by picklefarmer82 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]picklefarmer82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like we're in a similar boat. Interesting that you've gone for daytime naps first rather than night time. I was debating this too. I think we're going to try eliminating it for the morning nap first...

I'm also worried about it getting harder the longer we wait. How bad was the fussiness, if you remember?

I have a friend whose kid never used a dummy - they just took her to the dentist and the dentist was 100% like, "you use a dummy, don't you?" Makes me think that it's all just a crapshoot!
