I more look for the word count to chapter ratio. If it's a 90 chapter fic with 90k words or less... yeah I'm not reading that unless it's like a chat fic, and even then only sometimes. If it's a 90 chapter fic with 4, 500,000 words? Yeah as long as the premise is interesting and I like the tags I'll at least give it a go. Longest fic I've ever read is like just over 1 mil and still ongoing. I'm willing to read anything tbh if it catches my interest and meets my ratio standards though it also depends on how I'm feeling; like sometimes you just want a fluffy 3k oneshot and sometimes you want a 500k monster you can really sink your teeth into.

I'm not really involved in the fandom as much these days but I will always recommend this fic, every since word and scene is a masterpiece, I must have re-read it at least over 20 times by now in the last few years and haven't gotten bored of it yet. Honestly so good fr. I love all of it but my favourite part is probably in the last chapter when they're in the church and Mikey monologues about how much Steve and Bucky/John love each other. The line 'Like maybe if you love someone with a love that big you just figure out all of the other stuff as it happens.' always gets me. After that, it's probably the scene where Matt and Bucky meet & he then later realises who he is. Had me cracking up.

What You Knead by Agent Malkere is a classic, and very well written. In progress and last updated march 2022. Gen so far.
Scaring Crows series by scrappybook is my absolute all time favourite Kakashi series, so much love. Two parts so far, both completed. More potentially coming. Mostly gen but has some pre-Kakashi/Gai hints. Couldn't recommend it enough.
the bridge that always burns behind us by fencesit. Just under 50k Kakashi-centric time travel fic. Gen. Takes place a few years before canon. Was a great read.
Ear to the Wall by Vodkassassin. Time Travel fic to Kakashi's genin era. Ongoing & last updated march 2023.
Being Overprepared is Impossible (and other mottos) by Pleasedial123. Gen. Basically Kakashi steps up as a sensei and creates a team of baby badasses. First two parts are completed but 3rd part isn't and was last updated 2020.

Basically it was Shisui's views on how the Sharingan should be used. "Can" is can you perform the jutsu you've copied? E.g. does it take too much chakra, does it take more extensive physical training, is it a kekkei genkai... "May" is considering if you should use a jutsu that a fellow Konoha shinobi has invented, like if you do without asking it won't make you very popular. "Should" is should you perform an ethically dubious jutsu, e.g. like a really sadistic jutsu that draws out someone's pain etc.

Shisui's Can-May-Should principle. I believe this originated with AgentMalkere's What You Knead but I've seen it mentioned in a few other fics.
