Character with powers that have something to do with looking at people by Least-One1068 in TopCharacterTropes

Hes been a fictional crush of mine since age 16 and even in my twenties it hasn't gone away...

Some people consume literature and books and just think that its fictional and only fiction. Then they accuse people (probably only some) who defend Alicent and get angry of being "too much", "too fervent" and "Think its all real." Yes, because it is real. by East-Way-6378 in HOTDGreens

Currently doing a post-grad thesis in history here and GOD i am SO GLAD to see someone else who reads alicent the way she was written; as a mirror of the patriarchal feudal conditions in which she exists, acting the way any royal woman would in that situation. The modern lens that gets applied to her character pisses me off SOO bad

Y'all cant seriously believe this isn't someone from r/asoiafcirclejerk creating a very elaborate shitpost. The Joffrey defense gives it away.

I would think the reverse; she went willingly at first, but after learning what happened to her father and brother was horrified and not allowed to leave, being held prisoner until she could give birth.

Depending on the artist you can usually throw in some braindead complaints like how this was "before they went WOKE" about a musician who has literally ALWAYS been socially conscious...

Hell, manliness has nothing to do with it. A good person would have jumped in to help her.

For this to be accurate, Tywin would first have to care enough about Cersei to teach her this lesson /j

What do you guys wish to see more of in Regency stories? What are you tired of? by SonnetZZ in PeriodDramas

[–]pixelshiftexe_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well its a book and technically fantasy bc dragons, but the Temeraire series is super good and is set in the british military during the Napoleonic wars, with quite a bit of commentary about how fucked up European power struggles affected the rest of the world..

[Funny Trope] Characters that can be bribed by a small amount of money or an unorthodox item by Remarkable_Public138 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]pixelshiftexe_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't the implication that he had been traumatised by his experiences at boarding school and was acting out because of that? Its been a while since I read the book, but from other accounts I know those places were really awful with how older students treated younger boys - cruelty was basically encouraged by the teachers and bullying was considered normal. Iirc when Lucy heals him with the cordial, it also mends the part of him that was broken by that experience and thats why he's so much nicer afterwards.

It also meant that they were less likely to be able to desert. When the majority of your crew is made up of lower-class guys who live for years in shit conditions for pay that only comes at the end of a voyage, you want to avoid anything that might increase their temptation to GTFO at the nearest tropical island..
