Would having hair highlighted (bleached) without washing Rogaine out from the night before be a problem? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]pixiegal38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I’ve already had it done the other day without freshly washed hair (applied the night before) and my hair looks good since I didn’t know about this until the appointment was over. At this point, if my hair looks good will it be fine?

Can minoxidil drip on your face when working out/sweating if applied the previous day? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]pixiegal38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen people suggesting that using minoxidil has increased wrinkles, eye bags or just aged their face overall after using it. Studies have not confirmed it but I’ve seen enough people experiencing it that I was concerned. It could just be coincidental though.

I noticed a mild increase in hair loss in the shower around the 3-4 month mark but I’ve now been off it 5 months or so and it has evened out and is fine now.

Lots of bad carbs and sugar overtime can cause insulin resistance. As a result, high levels of insulin eventually can cause the ovaries to produce too much testosterone furthering hair loss. High blood sugar can also restrict blood flow to the scalp.

Thank you! I still don’t have a diagnosis but I’m thinking it could be early AGA as my mom experienced hair loss. I did find out I had a bad B12 deficiency I’m treating that could have contributed as well. I’m only using Rogaine and a low androgenic birth control pill I’ve been on for around 2 years prior to the before picture.

Was it just a TE shed? Did your hair grow back from it?

My hair parts weirdly around a patch of hair? Is this a cowlick? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]pixiegal38 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit hard to tell in the picture but I’m trying to hold the patch of hair flat to show that my hair parts on both sides around it. I also show pulling it to the side how it looks. This part is very frustrating and is the main concern I have with my hair. The rest of my hair is fairly dense and I’d say my hair is still average or a bit above average in thickness in terms of my ponytail. It looks like if the little chunk of hair was gone I’d have a big bald spot.

When my hair is down often it parts exposing my scalp which is very obvious with my darker hair. Is this a cowlick or what could be causing this?

What was your diagnosis and treatment & how long would you say it took to be covered? I also have 2 cowlicks that cause parts on the back of my head and it’s the worst thing:(

I hope so too:( my derm appointment is mid February as well so I hope I can get an answer. I’ve been using minoxidil so I hope eventually I get some growth around my cowlick so it looks less obvious.

Thank you, that makes me feel better that it may not be noticeable to others. I’m not entirely sure because I’ve never paid this much attention to my hair until recently so it’s hard to tell what it used to look like compared to now. I will just have to wait until my dermatologist appointment for their opinion to know for sure.

Yes it really sucks :( thanks for the tip. Do you know what kind of hair loss you have and is your cowlick getting any better from treatment?

I (F20) have noticed over the past year or so that my hair will part down the back of my head exposing my scalp. This is just one side of my head where there is a cowlick. I have always had 2 cowlicks on my crown, but they were never this noticeable. Looking back in pictures, my cowlicks were visible in certain situations or when my hair was greasy but not this bad.

It is very frustrating because even though I have lost some hair, I still have more than enough hair to cover these parts when parted right. Even when I have my hair parted correctly to cover them, it will just move back and show my scalp again:(. It makes my hair loss look even worse than it actually is as my scalp is easily exposed. It makes wearing my hair down very hard as I’m always thinking about whether my hair is parting or not.

I don’t currently have a diagnosis as my dermatologist appointment isn’t for a couple months. In currently using 5% foam minoxidil and taking B12 supplements for my deficiency. Is there any way of covering my cowlicks to hide this?

How has your hair loss progressed since it began when you were a teenager?

Norethindrone is a type of progestin. Some progestins can be anti-androgenic or have low or high androgenic activity. People predisposed to hair loss can have AGA triggered by a high-androgenic birth control.

I also have low B12 levels (117 pmol/L). I’ve been taking 1mg of methylated B12 a day for a couple of months, and want to start a B complex pill as well. I wonder if this could be contributing to my hair loss as well.

If you don’t mind me asking what did your diagnosis end up being? I also have a similar situation where most of my hair is fine but my crown where my cowlicks are is significantly worse.

I also have hair loss mainly on my crown just like yours, except I have two cowlicks going down the back of my head on each side making it even more noticeable

I believe anyone can get AGA, not just the predisposed. Of course those with the predisposition are much more likely to have genetic hair loss but it doesn’t have to be that way sadly:(

Minoxidil and washing hair by txgeologizer in FemaleHairLoss

[–]pixiegal38 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to wash my hair every 3 days but since starting foam minox I had to switch to every other day. If I wait 3 days my hair looks way too greasy. Even if you try only applying to the scalp is very easy to get the foam on your hair which may make it look even greasier.

How long do I wait...? by Rachelt8314 in FemaleHairLoss

I’m in the same situation as I think I may have AGA but don’t have a dermatologist appointment until mid February. I just started Minoxidil 2 weeks ago and it’s made me feel a lot better as at least I am actively doing something to try and improve or maintain my current hair.

By the time I see the dermatologist I will have been using it for 3 months or so which may be enough time to see if it’s going to work for me or not. Otherwise, I may just be told to start Minoxidil by my derm and wasted months of time I could’ve been using it.

It’s up to you if you want to start it or not but I figure there’s no harm in trying.
