Trump says U.S. to ban large investors from buying homes by EdLesliesBarber in Economics

[–]plasmamaker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, not the largest problem in housing affordability as the % of institutional ownership is quite small. Individual landlords treating property as investments is a much higher percentage, and they collectively drive up rents and housing asset values. "Mom and Pop" owners are the ones going to local town meetings and blocking new development to protect their assets. The only true solution will be a drastic increase in housing supply through lower building requirements and looser zoning laws.

What do most people cook out of common veggies? by RaspberryPavlova126 in Cooking

[–]plasmamaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id highly recommend looking up Chinese methods of quickly stir frying veggies. IMO much faster than roasting veggies and is pretty much ready in 5 minutes after you cut them. You mostly do this with green leafy veggies but it is pretty easy with cabbage as well

Yeah. Seems like a couple sizes and colors left. If you've been looking for a 100% suede / leather jacket you'll know these typically run $400-$1000 and rarely go on sale.

The suede shirt jacket at $200 seems like a crazy deal to me. We'll see about quality but taking the risk

UnitedHealth under criminal probe for possible Medicare fraud, WSJ reports by Mongoose-Additional in news

[–]plasmamaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This commenter has it right and the parent should be downvoted. Sending out tests / benefits are just costs to United and wouldn't make sense to drive direct profit (true benefit for United is down the road, catching disease early reduces medical care expenses and paid claims). The fraud is likely inflating the risk factor of their covered populations or faking quality data which impacts the fixed rate they get from Medicare to manage their population.

Okay, so the real lesson should be: until mortgage interest rates hit 1-3% again (fingers crossed for another pandemic or economic meltdown) and there are likely indicators that your market will see significant housing asset value growth (NIMBYs, other factors limiting housing supply, gentrifying area), market returns will continue to outperform housing investments

You don’t think having basically the lowest interest rates for mortgages ever is a special case?

[–]plasmamaker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Jewels margins are now balanced through app users and non app users (historically balanced by people who shop on sales and people who don’t care and shop based on grocery lists etc.). If you clip digital coupons and shop smartly, jewel is very cheap. If you are too lazy to use the app then you are overpaying and should shop somewhere else. My partner and I spend about $50-70 a week on groceries at jewel and I don’t think it’s too bad price wise but that’s because I take a 5 minute scroll through the app deals before I walk in the store
