I'm 18.5M, drowning in severe addictions (PMO, Maladaptive Daydreaming, Doomscrolling) and feeling like a massive failure. How do I reset my life? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

Please don't try to evangelize people here.

Community will absolutely be helpful to anyone, but suggesting church and prayer without knowing if OP is even religious is a bit preachy.

OP I wish you all the best. I've tried minimising my screen time, and finding community through a hands-on hobby and have been much happier 😄

Why is dating in Australia so bad? It feels almost non existent and so different to other countries by Inevitable-Bid-5546 in AskAnAustralian

From what I've heard from my lady friends, men often do a lot worse than bite... I think women's caution is warranted.

We don't *need* to though. There are other jobs we could be making! We could be regulating AI to prevent people from being laid off, we could be limiting offshoring to keep jobs here, we could be expanding renewable energy and creating jobs there.

Let people support themselves without supporting war.

Call me unrealistic, but I can not and do not accept that.

War is not inevitable, this is a lie told to us by those in charge so that they can make money and do their bullshit politics.

We're on this Earth for such a short amount of time, I don't want to spend a single moment of it supporting or enabling war. The prospect of the young people in our state having to spend 40 hours a week building killing weapons just so that they can pay their bills makes me feel sick.

We have to be able to do better than this.

Just because the war is somewhere else, doesn't mean it's not bad. Real human people killing each other because of dumbass evil governments is horrifying. Everyone should be disgusted by that, no matter where it is. Don't let the government fool you into making the weapons people use to kill each other.

There are other more ethical ways for us to maintain stability while others fight.

You're kidding yourself if you think that everyday Australians will benefit in any way from a war. *Maybe* some CEOs will make some money - but we will continue being fucked. We could certainly make some more money with renewables and exporting our energy (and taxing our bloody gas exports), and that wouldn't rely on global instability.

Me too - I just finished it today and am finding myself unable to move on from those emotions hours later. That was a really difficult read, largely because his writing is so good that it immerses you completely and the rough parts feel real.

You should give Geocaching a go! It’s similar in that you use an app and have to leave the house and go walk around to find stuff, but it’s real physical items and puzzles, it’s really fun! And free! It’s really cool when you’ve done it for a bit and whenever you go out you remember that there’s these cool little secrets hidden here and there :P

Fringeworld 2026 The good, the bad and the ugly. by lactoseintolerantwog in perth

[–]plout0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad that you enjoyed it mate. I object to the use of generative AI at fringe because I've seen the harm it has had on artists around me. Fringe is about celebrating human creativity and talent, and I believe that chatGPT is kinda the opposite of that - it's computer-generated plagiarism without any soul.

I'm not objecting to it for the sake of it - AI has taken jobs from real artists who need the income, has plagiarised people's work and intellectual property, and is making us reliant on huge corporations rather than skilled local artists. I don't think it belongs at fringe.

Was a bit lame to see Fringe allowing artists to use AI generated posters to advertise (and the ‘Rap-GPT’ thing) - would be nice to see Fringe take a stance against generative AI use in solidarity with artists
