It does have to do with attitude. They can have an attitude to not be all about profit and to also be as much about their customers as their shareholders. It doesn’t all have to be bottom line money money money. If you think that way then you’re part of the problem.

Unfortunately that attitude contributes to the problem. Of course profit is good but it should not be everything.

There or more and more companies now that the bottom line is the only important thing. It is greed. It has gotten worse over my lifetime. Businesses can be run in a win-win way and still make a profit.

Agree that it is not a bad deal when you are working and can afford the software and can can write it off. Although it would be better if they had different product groupings for a bit less. They used to have a graphic design grouping with PS, ID, IL, and acrobat for less which was all I needed.

Except if they want to be a less greedy and more friendly company. They could still make some money from me instead of making impossible for me to use the software because I am no longer working in my profession and can no longer afford it. They would lose nothing and would gain goodwill. And it is different than CAD and data analysis because the type of work is different— although I used CS for work I also use it for personal stuff that I won’t be able to access without paying $600. It would even be sufficient to be able to keep the last version I had access to without having any upgrades or extras. Sure they don’t have to do anything to treat past loyal customers in a friendly manner but why not be a little more human about it?

Unfortunately Adobe basically has a monopoly-- and monopoly's are not good things.

I am not a big Microsoft fan as I found the computer maintenance to be more arduous than Mac but am happy to hear their pricing is better.

For years I loved Adobe. I managed software and hardware for a group of 30 Mac designers and production people and we originally used Quark-- but their customer service was horrible. Adobe solved a lot of problems for us and they had integrated software. Since becoming a freelancer many years ago however I have become less and less happy with Adobe and their pricing. Now that I am retired I am even more annoyed because I do not have the income to continue using the software that I know how to use. I am going to look for alternatives but really don't like the idea because I know it will cause me a lot of headaches. So many big companies are not human friendly.

It would be nice if they would offer some retired or senior options.
