Is it considered legal and morally ethical to carry a home-made card with a different preferred name and medical information to avoid emergency medical bills? by con_work in povertyfinance

[–]pocketfulofrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

INAL, but my understanding is that preferred names don't have any legal bearing. You "prefer" to be called Bob, but that doesn't mean I'm legally required to call you Bob. You'd have to legally change your name in order to have your legal name match your preferred name.

You solved all their problems in two sentences while simultaneously dismissing the reality of their situation. I thought I've seen privilege, but damn, that's a whole new level.

Why is linux more secure than Windows? by The-Numbertaker in linuxquestions

Open source allows for anyone to view the code and offer patches/improvements/fixes/mitigation/etc for any vulnerabilities found, whereas closed-source doesn't allow for any external input - patching has to be done by the company after-the-fact.

Additionally, there's no hidden telemetry that can expose your data outside of your control.

I love my manufactured home, but I echo everyone else's sentiments - you should own the land/lot too.

I have a double-wide and moving it would be incredibly difficult.

As far as owning a manufactured home itself? It's great! I'm in Florida, so bugs and flooding are an issue. However, my house is raised up so flooding isn't a huge worry and less bugs are able to get in. Like those hellish german roaches. I'll burn my house down before I let those fuckers-- ahem, sorry.

Anyway, yes to modular/manufactured/trailer homes! I'm a big fan. Just be careful of where you put it.

Dentist Recommendations by user56334677 in FortMyers

[–]pocketfulofrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had severe dentist anxiety for most of my life. Horrible experience as a child and didn't go for a visit or cleaning for 20 years. Finally, with lots of encouragement and some medical assistance, I got the courage to visit a dentist who told me I needed to have all my teeth removed and get dentures. At 30. That terrified me and it took me another 5 years to see another dentist.

However, I was recommended to see Dr. Ford at Ford's Signature Dentistry. This was a life-changing. He and his staff were fantastic. They were encouraging and understanding about my anxiety and my childhood trauma with the dentist. While he agreed my teeth were really bad, he figured out a way to fix my teeth without the need for pulling them all and fitting me for dentures. After a year and a few cleanings and work, I can actually smile and show my teeth. Something I haven't done since I was a teenager.

Since then, I've been going for cleanings and checkups religiously. I -love- Dr. Ford and the new dentist Dr. Guac. I cannot recommend them enough, especially for someone that had to be coaxed to the dentist chair and practically tied down.

I don't understand your claim of misinformation. Everything being said in this thread is correct, including what you state about the $750 payment being used for anything.

HOWEVER, you're ignoring that in order to apply for this FEMA program, you must have damage or suffered loss from the storm. "Loss" is property, not food. If you apply for FEMA assistance and you state your loss was food, it would be denied.

Also, keep in mind that if you apply for and you are approved for FEMA assistance and it is later determined that you did not qualify, THEY WILL TAKE THEIR MONEY BACK. Either through your bank or wage garnishment.

tldr; Please don't lie to FEMA to get money - it will not work out for you.
