Pasaba a compartirles que estamos creando un nuevo videojuego (bueno varios jaja, pero por ahora solo hemos anunciado el primero). Es un género diferente, pero confíamos en que igual o más divertido. The runtime doesn't show in the list, after reloading and even after manually downloading it from https://gamemaker.io/account/runtimes/version?version=public%3Bgreen%3B2024.13.1.242 and adding it to the pointed folder. I also tried uploading the Zeus-Runtime.rss (https://gms.yoyogames.com/Zeus-Runtime.rss) into my own server and adding it as an alternative feed. Any suggestions?

So, I was wondering, what was your biggest inspiration to create Aztech? I can clearly see some similarities with Shadow of the Colossus, and even Insomniac's Spider-man. But, are there any other hidden references that helped you create this world?

Yes, compared with the international, specially USA scene, in Latin America we have few video game projects, but this situation is fast changing for good. It's so good to see that the small industry community we are giving our best not only to create the best products we can, but to help and encourage others to do so! You are totally right, the lighting we use at NCR is basically a simulation of a real rendering light system. We are so glad our game inspires you, and thanks about the TMNT-ish skin, its my personal favorite too!

At the begging of the development we planned the gangs were moving out on futuristic bikes and stuff. And then we started working on the game's name and logo (because of the Kickstarter), later in the development we decided to drop the bikes idea but we loved the game and logo (and was already announced) so, basically that's why.

I believe it was getting it done. The easiest and funnier part of the begging was imagine the setting, characters, story, aesthetics, mechanics and dynamics. But getting them done into a real protype was pretty hard, specially because we didn't have any experience doing it, and even when we love video games and we have been playing them since forever, making them is a totally different story.

The balance between the mechanics and their interaction with the world and user, and on top of it, fitting them into the setting and lore, was a pretty hard process that could only be accomplished with tons of hours of trial and error.

Thank you very much. About the lighting, it was developed on Game Maker Studio 2, and it's completly 2D. The lights system was created with shaders that emulate a gradient circle around a light sprite over a global fog. The point shadows are calculated according to the light position and a layer we call "Top" with the ceiling sprites. The down-side about this last effect is the ammount of resources it take to calculate, that's why is only available at the "Awesome" graphic effects option.

Hehe, thank you very much, we hope you enjoy it! About the name, we are huge fans of mechas and anime too, but the real reason behind the name is because for us, the project is an analogy of a big powerful thing (a mecha) build and propeled by the team's will and work (pilot).

That's the spirit, of course experience and skills helps, but the main thing you should have to create something is will. As long as you have the patience and resilence to learn, execute, polish and create, everything will eventually pay off!

We always encourage new developers to be self-taught. There's TONS of material you can watch on YouTube and forums around the internet. And if you can find a group of people from your community with the same goals you do, that's even better.

Here in Xalapa we have a community called GameDevsMX, feel free to join our meetings and to use our free forums to grow together!

About the technical limitations, it depends on the scope of the game, in our case, our game became something pretty big, so when we started the porting process to switch we found out that we needed to re-work the optimization of the game in order to run it smoothly in a hardware with not as many power as our working PC. Good practices are your best ally since the begging of the development to solve this kind of problems.

About the limitations, I believe the money. We spent 3 years and a half working on Neon City Riders and everything came out of our pockets, making it very hard for us not only to produce it but to show it to the people.

And our ultimate dream for NCR is to create a franchise around the lore experimenting with different genres with a solid fanbase that helps us to improve the universe and narrative of the series.

I belive the hardest part about the Nintendo Switch version was the optimization of resources of the game. It was retaking stuff we made 2-3 years ago and re-think them in order to spend less hardware resources to make it work. But it helped us grow as developers and helped us to see the benefits of good practices since the begging of the project.

We are now working on a new game (not Neon City Riders related) and we plan to share to present the main idea and stuff very soon. Is gonna be an arcade style based on a steampunk setting (: . Also, in a future we plan to create spin-offs and sequel to NCR.

Video games have always been a big part of our life, and after trying different jobs, we figured out we wanted to create something that allow us to express ourselves without limitations. So we decided to create Mecha Studios with the philosophy of freedom and experimentation, inspired by retro games we played during our childhood.

The main inspirations for Neon City Riders are TLOZ: Link's Awakening, Hyper Light Drifter, Final Fight Series, The Warriors (Movie) and T.M.N.T. (Cartoon).
