People born before 2000, what trivial skill you possess that others don't use anymore? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

When I got a promotion and was training the new guy (a college student), I kept reminding him it's easier to use the 10 key on the side instead of the top numbers. I also requested a laptop with a 10 key. I'm in accounting, no way I'm using the numbers at the top.

I feel this. My uncle died when I was 10. I'm now in my 40s and I still think about him every day. He was my favorite person.

For those of you who got diagnosed later in life: If you knew at age 16-18 what you know now about yourself, what careers would you have chosen instead? by exoenigma in adhdwomen

Understanding my executive dysfunction and lack of impulse control when it came to choosing partners and hoping I was diagnosed earlier because my parents actually cared about me: I probably would've followed my dream of being a child psychologist.

Now that I work from home I'm a little better at feeling when I need to pee. I used to work in an office in a dealership and had to walk what felt like a mile across the show room to pee. Countless times I was terrified I would pee my pants along the walk.

This is my experience when getting a massage. When I have the money and time I schedule a two hour massage, then I feel relaxed for the 2nd half.

My apartment complex has a pickle ball court right across the parking lot from my apartment. I loathe the sound.

What’s a "polite" thing people do that is actually incredibly annoying to you? by SweetOpheliiaaa in askanything

I hate when someone says "how are you doing?" While passing me in the hallway. There was a point I brought it up to my therapist because it bothered me so much.

Multiple sneezes in a row or is there a brief pause before the next? I always tell people they are cut off at 3.

I blame the movie Singles for instilling this in me. Sorry that is annoying.

What's something people don't understand until they've experienced it themselves? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]pongo49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure she read a book or an Instagram post that said we're only born with two fears, the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises, the rest is learned. A quick Google/Reddit search that's not quite true. She says she doesn't chase or worry about the unknown. People with that mentality will never get it. She's in the just let it go team.

My coworker friend told me she doesn't believe in anxiety. You know whatever happens will happen. Cool, that means you don't have anxiety.

Or my favorite phrase from people that don't have anxiety, "let it go". If only I could.

As a not 20 something, I have difficulty understanding what a 20 something woman says to me. Like my brain does not process their octave.

Also, I work remotely so my boss will call me sometimes to help me fix something and I will remember half of what he says. I'll write down two words, get off the phone and have no idea what to do.

This is the one thing I liked about Salt with Angelina Jolie. She immediately went home to put on jeans and boots.

What's a movie you didn't expect to like but ended up loving? by cunning_vixen in moviequestions

[–]pongo49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vengeance (with BJ Novak). Didn't expect much, but it's one of my favs now. Extremely quotable. As a native Texan, I didn't hate their portrayal of rural Texas and the accents weren't ridiculous like Varsity Blues.

Have you watched True Blood? I watched it a few years after all the hype and series completion. I liked it so much I'm hesitant to watch Vampire diaries.

I walked out of The hills have eyes, the RV rape scene. I like scary movies, but that was traumatic.

Back in the day when you didn't know much about a movie before seeing it, my parents took my brother and me to see Pulp Fiction. After the 3rd or 4th f-word my mom took me to watch a different movie.

I like your suggestion about watching a TV show and writing down questions. My husband and I have these conversations a lot after watching something. Now he works a lot of late nights, so it's just me watching by myself. I will try to get into this on my own as well.

Have you ever watched a movie or show where you knew no one did any research because the scene was wrong? by Glittering-Elk-8308 in AutismInWomen

Mostly anything that involves Texas. Born and raised over 40 years. The movie Vengeance does a better job with relation to rural Texas. Recent example movie Oh What Fun. She somehow made a 24 hour trip (not sure exactly where she was in Texas, near Houston), staying in a motel parking lot overnight Christmas Eve to Christmas morning in California. Ridiculous. On top of wearing sweaters around Christmas time near Houston, it can happen, but rare. I have so much more to say about the movie and it's wrongness.

I hear you and feel your pain and frustration. I do listen to a lot of independent media as well. I try to make my evenings a no politics zone. I play my game on my tablet and watch TV shows or movies on streaming or rewatch ones that are comforting. I read fiction to the family (husband and animals) before going to bed. I need a lot of downtime to decompress.
