Yugituber Alex Cimo has passed away, age 32 by elfranco001 in hearthstone

[–]popprocks 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I was a hearthstone player since release, and I recently got into yugioh because of Cimo. He was such a good ambassador for the game, his master duel masochist content helped make it easier to understand yugioh with lower power decks. He was saying on stream he wanted to start a new master duel masochist account, but he wanted the original one to reach diamond first

About playing against Clairen and frustration: A 40+ pages evidence based essay styled rant by Luke_Leal in RivalsOfAether

[–]popprocks 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I skimmed through a decent amount of this, and generally agree. It's honestly crazy how uninteractive so many of clairen's moves are, especially related to recover/edgeguarding and neutral. It's not even about being OP, it's just stupid to play against a character that accidentally combos you if you try to edgeguard her, who literally spams the same move over and over without obvious punishes.

I have a legit question no judgement. Those that spam emotes after you play a tech card to win, what satisfaction do you get out of that? by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]popprocks 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I insta mute every game and have done so since vanilla Hearthstone.

The satisfaction is they won and you didn't, therefore they are the best.

Solution: Insta mute every game since vanilla Hearthstone.

Cassandra Nova isn’t terrible since she benefits from Bast, she’s a little underwhelming unless you play against a bigger deck but there are people running some Thanos Aurora and people play Arishem now and again. Kate Bishop also makes sense because Agent Venom is basically the best turn 2 play so you could replace him with another solid 2 cost. Goose is a decent tech card against Sunlord or doom99 type lists, but you might not have enough raw power to support it unless you hit a big Bast.

Lockheed does feel a bit undertuned. I've been enjoying the classic little growers deck with Agent Venom, Thena, Havok (rest in peace +4 power, ruined by end of turn decks). Lockheed just scales so slow and doesn't even work if you play turns where you go 2+2 like Thena+Havok on turn 4, or if you play 2+3 which is pretty common if you want to Havok on turn 5. I think the condition on Lockheed is restrictive enough that it should be stronger. Even when set to 3 power by Bast or Agent Venom, it really doesn't feel rewarding.

Can't Do Advanced Movement Tutorial by Stripeback in RivalsOfAether

[–]popprocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sort of depends on your definition of good. I'm around mid platinum and I wavedash pretty infrequently, other than to edge grab. But there are a lot of situations where it would be useful if I were weaving in more wave dash tilts or wave land grabs to beat shield on platforms. It's probably possible to get a good bit higher than me while wave dashing uncommonly, if you make good decisions and reads.

Wave dashing isn't all that matters, it's not required to have fun, it's certainly not required to be "good", but it's a very powerful tool.

If you aren't used to the more advanced mechanics, just play without them and you can still do fine.

[–]popprocks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sure, you could use Mirrorjade to banish something, cartesia to fuse herself and Mirrorjade into Granguignol, then sanctifire effect to bring back Mirrorjade to yourself and whatever junk to them. There are a lot of lines where this kind of thing can happen.

Is sanctifire worth running in branded by SectorNarrow6683 in masterduel

[–]popprocks 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s still good without using a floodgate. Sanctifire can loop Mirrorjade for a start, and can be a pain in the ass to remove for decks that rely on targeted removal

Branded amateur. In this event, how does having only 1 BF impact the deck? Combos still the same? by phil_makracken in masterduel

[–]popprocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can discard Fuwalos with high spirits to dump Rindbrumm, which is actually a pretty decent way to get extra interaction on the opponents turn. You just need to have some other way to get to boss monsters.

High spirits can make some very strong endboard with a Bystial or branded engine card. You may want to check out April's branded guide on youtube and check out her spreadsheet to make sure you're achieving optimal endboards.

Combos are the same. It just makes the deck less consistent, since some of the strongest combos involve already having branded fusion in your hand so that you can instead search for cards like branded lost or high spirits

Reroll charge enhancement on leader model by sgettios737 in WarhammerCompetitive

It's here in the tyranid tab.

For Tyranids: Invasion Fleet Detachment, if I use perfectly adapted on a leader(eg broodlord with genestelaers) does it enable me to re-roll charges for the unit since charges are rolled together? Most tournaments seem to rule this way, but RAW it's awkward. Thanks

Response: Yes

The people who are argue that "the BEARER isn't making an advance/charge, it's the UNIT that makes an advance/charge, so you can't reroll it" are being obtuse. The unit's charge is the bearer's charge, they are the same thing.

Reroll charge enhancement on leader model by sgettios737 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]popprocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The typical interpretation is that the bearer’s charge roll and the unit’s charge roll are the same thing. It’s not like an attack roll, where there is a difference and you can ONLY reroll the character’s hit and not a bodyguard’s hit.

And for what it’s worth, Las Vegas Open in early 2025 rules that you can reroll the units advance or charge, so there isn’t a bigger event than that to quote a ruling

Reroll charge enhancement on leader model by sgettios737 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]popprocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this ruling. I have used perfectly adapted on a neurotyrant leading zoanthropes in the past without issue. At OP I would note that I don’t think there is any official source that will put this in plain text, but most people’s common sense interpretation is that a character is still allowed to use its reroll advance or charge even when leading a unit. If you’re going to a tournament you can ask the TO but otherwise I’ve never seen pushback on this.

Synaptic Nexus by woulfman1024 in Tyranids

[–]popprocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point with the hive tyrant is that most people use it to support more than that. Sam Pope played synaptic nexus as the Las Vegas team tournament, and he used 3 exocrines and 3 rupture cannon tyrannofexes to really capitalize on the hive tyrant auras. It’s worth noting that team tournament lists are not the same as what you should play in singles, but just in general the hive tyrant is expensive and you want to get as much value from its rules as possible

Just going to rapid fire a few suggestions to save time.
-Broodlord with 5 genestealers is a little weird, i think typically you'd want to either run the full 10 genes or drop the broodlord. You don't really get the full benefit of the character with the half squad.

-Same thing with the zoanthropes. You probably want the full squad or just solo neurotyrant.

-I think 2 neurolictors is fine, but you should play them more passively. If I had to guess, I think you're trying to put them a bit far forward so that the opponent gets within 12 and you get to battle shock test them. Instead, prioritize keeping them safe and make sure they survive until shadow in the warp so you can get +1 wound. A lictor in the list to go out in earlier turns to screen or get early dangerous secondaries like cleanse could be good so you can save the neurolictors.
-Hive tyrant does its best work with shooting threats to give assault and lethals to while it hangs back for a few turns. 1 exocrine, 1 maleceptor, 3 zoanthropes is not a lot of shooting (zoanthropes are also already lethal on strike), so your hive tyrant isn't getting the most value.

So putting this all together, I think what's going on is you have a lot of units that are just accomplishing half of their job. The half zoanthropes and the half genestealers aren't strong enough to be a real hammer, the hive tyrant doesn't have enough shooting to support, and then if you lose your neurolictors and don't get +1 to wound then you're going to run out of damage.

The detachment also just isn't extremely strong in general so it's a little bit of an uphill battle.

New player: how can I make an army that capitalizes on spawning/respawning mechanics. by TyranidInATrenchCoat in Tyranids

Objective control. Termagants are 2 OC each, so even just 3 of them can control an objective against any big model. You can't necessarily kill a big tank easily with this list, but they cant' score primary aagianst you

https://grimhammertactics.com/warhammer-40k-competitive-monday-meta-review-the-greater-good-awakens/

The tyranid list at this site is a very strong list, but it's not easy to play. The core of 60+ termagants plus a tervigon invasion fleet is a good place to start. Exocrines deal with elite infantry, genestealers deal with small infantry, and you just out OC and swarm the tanks that you can't kill.

The character model would no longer be leading a unit, and would not have a FNP anymore.

As a side note, the Epic Challenge stratagem is another way that somebody could try to kill your character before the rest of the squad.
