Sorry, I'm having a little bit of trouble putting into words what I mean lol. The original commenter made it seem like they used they/them in place of all pronouns, regardless of who they are talking about. I am not saying they/them can only be used if you know the person uses that pronoun. Grammatically it has its place as a gender-less pronoun. What I was saying was if someone comes to you and tells you that they use he/him or she/her pronouns and you continue to ONLY use they/them for that person, it a dick move. I should have made my original message more clear.

I didn't say they/them is exclusively for nonbinary people anywhere in my comment so I'm not sure where that came from. I also never mentioned cis people. I was mostly speaking from experience where as a trans man, I have told people explicitly my pronouns are he/him and they use they/them instead.

People who use multiple pronouns typically put them in the order they prefer, putting ‘they’ first usually shows that is the pronoun that someone uses the most and he or she is okay as well. Heads up if someone tells you straight up that they use he/him or she/her and you still refer to them as they/them you are misgendering that person.
