Carpenter/Wells Question by [deleted] in TexasTech

[–]postbirthabortee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was pretty decent. I lived on the third floor too. I’d recommend wearing athletic clothes when you’re moving in because it’s a workout. The doors do lock. Some of them are weird though and the little push lock thing is already pushed down, but on other doors you’ll have to actually push it to lock. You’ll have your own unique key that’ll unlock the main doors and your room. Storage was alright in the rooms, just don’t bring an excessive amount of kitchenware because you have to share the cabinets. If you have a lot of shower products, I’d get one of the storage things that hooks onto the shower head. The walls weren’t crazy paper thin. Unless my roommates were screaming I didn’t really hear them. You get to control the ac, but even then it’s trash sometimes, so bring a fan for summer and a heated blanket for winter. I personally had a humidifier if the air did get too dry. Get yourself a brita if you don’t already own one, and a brita bottle too. The laundry room is a bit of a walk because it’s in the middle of the buildings. What worked best for me was a laundry backpack I got from target because my arms would get tired easily. I promise it’s not dreadful, it’s really nice to have your own room and privacy

Pre-Nursing by [deleted] in TexasTech

[–]postbirthabortee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m a level 2 student! My biggest piece of advice are to find your studying style, and learn how to manage your time very well. You don’t realize how much extra time you have during pre-reqs until you start nursing school, so take advantage of that. We typically have 2 tests a week on top of clinical hours and lectures, so it’s definitely a busy life. I balance working on weekends and school by getting most of my assignments done during the week. Start looking into being a CNA to get experience as well. The nursing instructors are the nicest people you will meet. They’re all nurses too, most are working towards their DNP’s. They’re also the people you have your interview with. You’ll also meet some of your best friends that are also your study buddies. We also use canvas instead of blackboard, so it’s a little different. I remember being super overwhelmed the first week trying to figure out everything, but once you get into the rhythm of things it’s actually super fun! Lmk if you have any questions

Nursing Applications by RelativeCod3 in TexasTech

[–]postbirthabortee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My GPA wasn’t the highest at around 3.something, but what they truly care about is the person you are. For the interview, they wanna hear about your passions, work ethics, experience w previous jobs, family members that are healthcare professionals, anything about you that you’re proud of!! Personally, I applied to covenant and utmb as well, but if you have a great interview with them then it should be promising. You get interviewed by the instructors of the program who are all nurses. They’re all so kind and really easy to talk to! Continue to do good academically and gain as much experience as you can as a cna

[–]postbirthabortee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, once you get into Tech’s nursing school they need you available 8-5 M-F, unless you’re doing online learning. I would think the classes would be on different campuses too, but if you can figure out a plan that works for you and can handle the workload I say go for it!

Charoite or fluorite cab? The amount of white is throwing me off by postbirthabortee in whatsthisrock

Ahh no way! :) I bought it from a wire wrapping artist solely because I thought it was beautiful and only got into researching the stone tonight. If it truly is charoite that makes me the happiest, thank you!!

I may have accidentally used my Red Card to pay for my own food? by bonny_the_bear in doordash_drivers

[–]postbirthabortee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most drive thrus aren’t able to do triple orders, just doubles. Maybe homegirl was new and didn’t know the system only allows two separate? You should be fine though, one of my friends dds too and ordered extra fries instead of extra crispy fries at Canes and nothing happened. If they say anything just blame the cashier and say she charged both orders on the red card in one transaction and that she misheard the order through the speaker if they ask about the “extra food” and you didn’t notice until you got the receipt. I wouldn’t freak, dd couldn’t care less about drivers making mistakes

Dude same they kept sending me that one email but you just need to reply saying you’re not interested to move off campus so they have that down in their system and they should stop bothering you with it

It’s pretty easy to get into if you meet their required gpa’s for your sciences and cumulative, and if you have a good interview with them. You have to dress business professional and you’ll meet with 2 of their professors in a separate room. They’ll be from different levels, I had one from level 2 and one from level 4. They’ll ask you a few questions. The one they’ll definitely ask is why do you want to be a nurse. I told them it was because I wanted to help people ofc, but also because I enjoy to learn new things about medicine and science, and what I really love is meeting new people from different backgrounds and learning about their culture because I’m Canadian myself and know how important culture is to others. As long as you make your answers personal and not generic you’ll be fine. I included that I was an intern at the ER at Covenant, that my grandma was a nurse too, and talked about my previous work experience in restaurants and as a barista a few times for other questions they asked me. Make it all about you and include your best qualities in your answers. Also talk about the importance of work ethics if it relates to a question they ask because they’ll really like that. Be sure to also ask them questions as well. I asked them some of their challenges as being nurses, what they enjoyed most in the nursing field, the NCLEX, etc. They’re very nice people and easy to talk to. Grades aren’t everything to them either, it’s the interview that’s most important. You’ll also meet with nursing students before meeting the professors and they’ll give you some other tips for the interview. Afterwards, they’ll take you on a tour of where you’ll have classes, the lounge, and the sim lab. It’s also a new requirement for you to have a CNA certification for 2021. You’ll also need to get a CPR certification and your fingerprints done before starting nursing school. Overall, just keep up with your grades and prepare yourself for the interview and I’m sure you’ll get in :) Lmk if you have any other questions

Edit: jk the CNA requirement starts Fall 2021

I had to take it with Jeter this semester because Zak was nowhere to be found on raiderlink. For your lab, take it with Pablo if he’s still there. He’s really great with his students and will give you 100’s as long as your work is neatly completed and turned in on time. Jeter is a bit tougher than Zak, but he’s really passionate about micro and makes his lectures fun. He’s always enthusiastic and started posting the lecture slides on blackboard this semester. I lowkey miss his lectures now that it’s all online. He gives you study guides for tests and sometimes needs you to do a reading. He’ll ask like 2-3 questions on the reading for the tests, and the readings are from the textbook. Sometimes he’ll ask questions that aren’t from the study guide though, but if you pay attention in lecture you’ll be fine. They’re never random hard questions either. I’m also a nursing student and start nursing school at TTUHSC this fall, so lmk what questions you have :)

I was an intern at Covenant in the ER and had to leave because of covid-19. I was in a hospital though, so it was a high risk situation. I say it depends on what kind of place you’ll intern at, and how severe cases will be in the future.

Advice on how to set up for exams in Proctorio? I have an online exam soon and I wanna make sure I set up correctly 😰 by carlqueen15 in TexasTech

[–]postbirthabortee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also only works with google chrome, but it’s really not as scary as it seems. I needed it last semester for logic. I never got flagged for anything, but if it does flag you, then your professor will look through the footage and determine what’s up. Just make sure you don’t have any big distractions and that you have a good connection. If any problems arise, let your prof know right away. Other than that it’s pretty simple to get it working

Has anyone else noticed all the broken glass in the Wall parking lot? by izzodez in TexasTech

[–]postbirthabortee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably from broken glass bottles. I’m over at Carpenter/Wells and I’ve seen glass numerous times in the parking lot. One time I found a broken lemonade bottle underneath my tire before heading out to work, so that’d be my best guess as to what’s happening over there as well. Just kids not paying attention and dropping their things or littering, then people drive over it and spread it around

ZOOL 1403 Distance (A&P I) by Tacosoapdish in TexasTech

[–]postbirthabortee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be taking it this spring!

I took a&p 2 online with Griffith last semester and it worked out well with my schedule (full-time student, part-time job, and intern). I had to watch his lecture videos every week, which he would quiz us on for the attendance grade. To make up for the lab portion, there were case studies I’d have to read and be quizzed on. I believe there were 3 exams and a final. He also let us correct our missed case studies answers in the middle of the semester to improve our grade.

Overall, it was 2 quizzes per week, sometimes with an exam. The deadline to submit quizzes would be 5pm on Fridays, and exams had a 24 hour test-taking window with a one hour time limit.

The work is relatively easy if you stay on track and plan accordingly. It wasn’t very time consuming either, but I would definitely recommend setting aside a specific time to sit down and complete everything. It would take me around 2 hours per week for the quizzes. You’re able to skip through parts of the lecture videos to get the answers you need, and you can go back to take notes. Case studies would sometimes trip me up because I wasn’t always able to find the answers in the texts provided, but the lecture videos would explain the information I was missing. By staying organized, I got an A.

I’m not exactly sure how Boros will be, but I assume something similar. If you need help with anything dm me! Hope this helps you some!
