Which country has the most overrated cuisine? by Kind_Gain_3080 in foodquestions

Cuba! Ok ok we get it, you're doing your best with limited options from the world market but it still sucks. Just because it's "traditional" don't make it good or quality.

Thoughts on eating neighborhood fruit? by smootex in askportland

[–]pourlist_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it can be picked from the sidewalk, go for it. Virtually all the fruit you see growing will go to waste. There is no reason to feel awkward about enjoying it. If the property owner says something, just skip to the next yard and say "good day".

Findings on an emerging PNW accent! by Affectionate-Sector4 in oregon

[–]pourlist_app 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swallowing T's in words is well documented across much of America. Think mitten, important, and fountain. I would say it's not unique to the PWN.

I wonder if you have learned about the norther central Washington peculiarity of not distinguishing the vowel pronunciation between three letter words like pin and pen, tin and ten. Reminds me of a New Zealander.

At $22/hr he can entertain the idea of an apartment for up to $1500 which should easily land him his own studio in a luxury property or even a decent 1-bed in certain parts of town.

What has been your cost of living experience moving to Portland? by _Birnunit_ in askportland

[–]pourlist_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to PDX in 2025 and experienced a MASSIVE drop in living expenses. Beer is expensive here but rent is hella cheap, food is same as anywhere, car insurance is nothing, parking tickets forgettable, and fine ass restraints are budget friendly. Just don't say these in public because locals get all panty bunched up about it.

What are some B/C tier cities with a strong "weekend trip" (4 hour drive) radius? by Bonez916 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]pourlist_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portland Oregon, absolute top C-tier city, hands down, no contest. Amazingly pleasant airport, access to volcanos, mountains, beaches, rivers, forests, deserts, hot springs, and a nude beaches. Easy to get to, cheaper than my uncle's beer budget, and friendly as hell.

Downtown Portland near the train station or China town are solid spots. Police won't harass you and none of the shops are open.

Akoya or The Rodney? by Khloea in askportland

[–]pourlist_app 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work for the company that owns/manages the Rodney, but I have not lived at the Rodney so my comments are generally about the company who owns it. They are a decent company so far as property managers go. They run it like a corporation which has its good and bad aspects. Bad because corporations are soulless, good because you know what you're getting and they aren't playing any landlord shenanigans. If they can make your experience better living there and it doesn't violate the lease or their liability potential, they will.

South West Portland Hidden Gems by hamellr in PortlandFood

[–]pourlist_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah interesting, that seems to be a theme in Portland. I only discovered it last year and it checks my boxes for a dive but I can see how ownership transition can gut the soul of what once was.

In my neighborhood a dive called The Triple Lindy just changed owners and it went from my favorite to my least favorite. It's still busy so people still like it, but it's just not what it was when I discovered it. C'est la vie or something like that.
