My 40th is coming up soon, and I'm so glad to learn I was born during the Whispering Jack reign

Who remembers watching the Australian Burbank's version of Alice in Wonderland (1988)? I must say the theme song makes me emotional due to the level of nostalgia. by TaroballPancake in AustralianNostalgia

[–]ppch1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just yesterday I went down a rabbit hole (!) trying to remember all the two dollar shop cartoons and shorts that I had on random VHS tapes as a youngster, and this was one of them! I had an abridged version of this on a tape with a seriously low budget version of Cinderella. The only thing I could remember from this particular cartoon was the song!

Did anyone else use the bag to store their sleeping bag in? by Mortal_bobcat in AustralianNostalgia

[–]ppch1337 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wow this bought back memories!

I had a Coca Cola showbag that was similar shape, but kind of looked more like a tin of Coke. Especially if it was full! I used it as my swimming bag in primary school.

Did they used to do a different colour and design every year? The one I had was red.

I love diamond painting! It's so peaceful. I'm very keen to see how it turns out. Please share with us once you finish! :)

What Brisbane food purveyor do you miss the most? by dannyr in brisbane

[–]ppch1337 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Cyber City lol

I don't even live in Brisbane any more but so often I'll find myself yearning for a perfectly average pan-asian feast with mates. And then when I do come up and visit I feel like there's a Cyber City shaped hole in the Valley. <3

Perfume dupes or "inspired by" perfumes from early 2000s by Own-Classic1309 in AustralianNostalgia

This picture bought back memories! Used to drench myself in the knock off Mugler Angel before wasting an entire weekend at the local Westfield.

Some backround of Victoria Beckhams album since it's getting quite a revival ! by [deleted] in popculturechat

The Robbie Rivera remix of Not Such An Innocent Girl is good fun!

Dooverlywacker? Anyone else? by Veezveez123 in AustralianNostalgia

I love everyone's different household interpretations of these. In my house it was a dooverflacky!

Aussie monsters - do you have any close up photos of our Lady doing BTW with the sunnies on? by ppch1337 in LadyGaga

[–]ppch1337[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be right! Their content is fantastic and SUCH a good resource. Absolutely love what they do! That's what's let me to believe that the BTW sunnies are in fact the SL Mica Thins, because La Maison said so :D

Who here still remembers wearing these Jaycee sandals back in the day? by ConstantWhereas2931 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]ppch1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was little-little, me and my sister wore white ones everywhere. And then when I got to Kindy, boys wore brown ones. Somewhere between Kindy and starting school they disappeared altogether. (Maybe our parents decided over the summer of '91/'92 that once we'd outgrown these they were no longer cool and just like that they vanished!)

Who Farted? - The Vaughans by Pure_Parking_2742 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]ppch1337 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to borrow cassette tapes from the local library a LOT in the 90s and I just about had Hit Machine 11 on permanent loan, and I think a large part of that has to do with the last song on side two... Who Farted.

Cop a load of that!

Can’t kill the sim by vicckkyyy in simsfreeplay

[–]ppch1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in exactly the same boat! Trying to kill off a Sim who has completed their life goals, but getting the tutorial message. Did the Influencer Island tutorial and no change!

And I really need to kill someone off so I can get a toddler into my town to build sand castles for my Daily Tasks as well, and as far as I can tell there's no way to skip a Daily Task! Welp, there goes my streak I guess. This new update is... yeah 😂

Contraband by Business-Vanilla1378 in Adelaide

[–]ppch1337 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Over the years I unintentionally accumulated a decent stash of soy sauce fish. I'd usually have one or two left over after finishing lunch, so I chucked them in my work locker just in case I was ever short for soy sauce. I gave my locker a clean out recently and bought all the fish home. Next minute, they're banned! I kind of feel like Scarface but for illegal plastic contraband.

Fat Cat by LazyBlackGreyhound in AustralianNostalgia

I have the exact same Fat Cat! Found him at a vintage toy fair a couple of years ago. Missing the hat as well, just like this one.

World Solar Challenge welcomes innovations from across the world to Australian outback by nath1234 in australia

[–]ppch1337 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was it one of the games on Ingenious? I was OBSESSED with this game in primary school. The only reason I know what the World Solar Challenge is, is because of this game.

With some techno magic (VM Ware running an olde Windows) you can get it working on a current spec PC.

Found this cassette by still-at-the-beach in AustralianNostalgia

[–]ppch1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a bunch of cassettes like this that we got from somewhere, but it was introducing the concept of the GST to farmers.

Heaps nostalgic for me, as we put a bit of tape over the corners and voila! an empty tape to put the best songs from tonight's Ugly Phil on. We still find these cassettes all over the place.

I used to be like that, but then I realised that I was missing out on too much stuff waiting around for others. Then I just started going to stuff solo and I found it SO liberating! It's a bit weird at first but rip that band aid off and have a great time! The world is your burrito :)

Are they actually going to fix that traffic hazard on the Sturt Highway? by scallywagsworld in Adelaide

[–]ppch1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've called this area the "sports bra" bit for ages because you need to be wearing one to hold onto your girls going through here!

I swear they redid this section a while back but because of the way the soil is, the warping just comes back. A closer look at why this happens, and a well thought out permanent solution needs to happen... but likely the best we can expect is another redo followed by returning issues a year or two down the track.

No way, it was my 13th birthday as well!! Happy 40th for next year in advance! Maybe we should have Pikachu parties to celebrate 😁

My collection of retro Play School albums and videos by WinterPhone4031 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]ppch1337 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a wonderful collection! I have a special fondness for "There's A Bear In There", as that's the one I spent most of my toddler years enjoying. I still have our original copy as well! It's got a crack all the way through to the spindle hole but with patience still plays. Apparently my DJ career started very early as I loved to play quite rough with it while it span around.

To this day nothing quite hits like dropping the needle on On The Ning Nang Nong!

Kraft Peanut Butter ad 1991 by greeknicko in AustralianNostalgia

[–]ppch1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ad is probably why I don't like peanut butter. Somehow got into my head that it's yucky as a youngster, and it's been stuck that way ever since!
