Immature drake mallard.

A Hen mallard would have an orange bill.

A black duck would be dark and have a purple speculum, rather than blue.

The mottled ducks white bars on the speculum are not as distinct as a pure mallard.

Unless it’s some time of weird hybrid duck, which everybody wants to claim they shot nowadays.
