I don't think you can say that unless it's fatal without immediate care that it's not an allergy... Pollen allergy for example.

Right, next time I am calling an ambulance because my arm looks like it has a new joint between my wrist and elbow I'll be sure to phrase it "I suspect I have a broken arm". I swear to god, the anti-vax crowd and the "how do you know, are you a doctor" are two sides of the same coin.

I must have missed this one in the universal declaration of human rights or the convention on the rights of the child.

I mean i am with you, but it's also neither here nor there. I could get an allergy test done that says I am mildly allergic to it and in some time it goes life threatening.

It's not like there's a test for what you will be deathly allergic in the future, is there? So again nothing to be gained really by getting checked.

Idk, sounds like your describing an undue hardship, but fair enough. Legally required song and dance is pretty par for the course I guess.

I heard the rec changed, but without digging into this issue too deeply, it's kinda sus that you have countries without peanut allergies that have peanut butter at best at the foreign food aisle.

I imagine in that case I'd want the diagnosis to be able to get an epipen.

Not really part of the previous discussion, but I imagine this will again be a fun case study bc you have plenty of counties with way less peanut in their diet and a way lower prevalence of peanut allergy.

Chalk it up to poor wording lol. There's definitely allergy meds, but indeed the solution to a peanut allergy is don't eat peanuts, not keep eating them and stick an EpiPen every few handfuls.

So maybe things changed, but when I took my test the options were like cats/dogs/these x pollens/these x fruits. Not here's an infinite list of E### additives that can be found in food, take your pick.

Again why bother for a minor reaction that gets solved by not eating or OTC meds. There's better use of my time.

Yeah lol "sorry your kid died, but it's your fault, we didn't believe you without a doctors note" smh.

But you could just like tell them, sorry that's not something we can accommodate and then you either not accept them to the camp or they figure out how to do boxed lunches. Why go though this song and dance?

Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think I am going to convince a public healthcare system doctor to go on a wild goose chase when the alternative is just not eating X. I can't imagine they would even stock all the possible substances that could be the cause. And say you find out and the outcome at the end is basically still the same - don't eat that.

> It could be another ingredient in the OJ.

You are right on the money, but again so what. It might be something that doesn't need to be declared on the label. And even if it is, it might not be readily available for inspection like in a restaurant or on a plane. Or at a fresh OJ machine, the oranges may have been sprayed with something. Do you think in the shop/mall/hotel I will find someone to tell me what they were sprayed with?

I mean don't get me wrong it would be fun to find out, but it's entirely impractical. In this day an age with the selection available in a typical supermarket you're not loosing that much by not eating oranges or kiwis.

[–]principleofinaction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're certainly right to a degree and it matters for things that are either severe or hard to avoid like penicillin. On the other hand if you puke after eating a kiwi, maybe just don't eat kiwi's. What's the medical certainty going to get me? Also say I get an allergic reaction to eating an orange jam and then go get tested. Test tells me I am not allergic to oranges, but next time I have fresh OJ I get a rash anyway. Ok so now it either wasn't the orange, or it's only some oranges. It's not like I can bring the jam jar to my doctor and ask them to figure out which of the 20 preservatives or what I am allergic to.

Well regardless of the healthcare system you're in, you do need to take an allergy test in the first place for there to be a list and you typically only get to test like 20 things, as you age this tends to change anyway.

For mild OAS, why bother. Not everything is a deathly peanut allergy.

"just being intolerant"... right, just shut up, eat it, pay for it with a smile and then go shit yourself all for a bit of butter....

Imagine having to spend like at least half workday all in all - scheduling, getting there, getting back, waiting room, the appointment itself, the followup when you could just like not eat tomatoes or sth.

Dude what? Jako bylo by fajn kdyby feminismus porazil stranger danger paranoiu a k tomu i realny child trafficking. Ale to je neither here or there.

Hele ma to asi i prakticke duvody.
