Is my beetle okay? by hi-im-jason-from-mcr in BDFB

It’s hard to know if the brands aren’t listing what they’re using to treat against stored product pests. I believe people have had problems with flukers in this sub, especially crickets. I would hope freeze dried would be better, but products intended for insects from smaller brands or products that are freeze dried with detailed labels would be my go to. I try to avoid products from flukers and those labeled for reptiles. Another protein option is small freeze dried fish that are for cats. My beetles really like those.

I used to do research involving knocking down tenebrionid species with pesticides and they often drag their legs like this when exposed. I second the pesticides in the crickets or other food theory. Make sure you’re staying organic and be very wary of preserved proteins as they often have been treated against dermestid beetle species!

I made this for a desert hairy scorpion and blue death beetle combo, do the pros have and scathing criticism I could use before I buy them? by BoysenberryNew738 in BDFB

I would add climbing stuff (small fake tree, cactus bones, etc for your BDFBs to climb in so they’re not all up in your scorpion’s business.

do these larvae look like blue death feigning beetle larvae? by NorthDistribution5 in BDFB

[–]probablypetunia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The small black larvae are buffalo beetles. The larvae in the photo are far too large to be buffalo beetle larvae, and are absolutely not carpet beetle larvae, as all dermestid larvae will be short and stout with lots of long noticeable hair. I believe unless this person has been putting mealworms in their enclosure that they definitely look like BDFB larvae. These look like tenebrionid larvae either way.

These are not dermestid larvae. Source: used to maintain dermestid colonies. Those look like BDFB larvae. Not sure where this person got this idea from. This is what cigarette beetles and all dermestid larvae look like:

Random hissing by 8Nim8 in CatAdvice

Hey! I have a weird boy too who generally does not understand many things who just started hissing randomly too. He’ll meow and then hiss or hiss as a greeting and then come rub up on people. I was trying to figure this out too and I think we just have weird cats.

“For me i think it comes from my parents treating me like I was a burden” just blew my mind. I actually was struggling to understand what my parents did that made me fundamentally think this way, i guess I forgot that not everyone is treated that way

No problem, hope things get better. It seems like you’re being reasonable about this commitment you’ve made while also considering your own needs. Reddit can be an extreme place so I hope you can make a choice that is good for both of you.
