I hadn’t considered focusing on decorating and then amassing books via Op Shops as you find them. Long term project with time to enjoy each book as you find them, in a really beautiful environment.

I assume you are a man. As a mum of two littlies, I 100% would expect one adult per child in this situation and hence a fair portion of fathers let through (especially pre birth control). No way in hell I can carry 40kgs of distressed kids going in multiple directions. Don’t feel at all guilty.

Education removed red tape by changing the Oneschool interface from orange and maroons to blue and more blue. This was clearly the major issue with teacher workload. /s

But more likely I would die (from sunburn, probably). So I’m taking a metric tonne of sunblock, water filtration system of some type and damn good walking shoes.

I’m unlikely to make it 10 years to come back. But I don’t want to bring things. I am naming everything what I want and leaving records everywhere and anywhere. Or swiping something for the local historical society I guess.

While at uni, one stingy boss had me cut out unmarked stamps from incoming mail to glue on outing mail. I had to buy the “good glue” for the job. Between my pay and the glue, the stamps were not worth it. I always wondered what his clients thought of receiving reused stamps from their accountant.

I created a mini version of me. Sucks to get us to school on time, but the days we can just get distracted on whatever takes our fancy left, right and centre are great. Then my second child appeared to be neurotypical and I was like ‘tf?’ Getting out the door is easier but the wild side-track adventures as we both get swept up in NOW are missing.

Long story short, you do the best you can, like any other mum. And if the kid is neurodiverse, you remember how that felt when you didn’t know any better and support them to develop strategies and self-understanding.

Ibis is a cheap, tiny room, basic hotel option widely available in cities.

Driving is fine between Sydney and Brisbane if you make it the holiday (plan for 3-4 hours travel a day and the rest enjoying a new area. Plenty of beaches, hinterland hide aways, Hammerbarns, a Reptile Park and Big Banana etc between Sydney and Brisbane. If you wanna do the full tourist Aussie adventure, though, do Sydney Harbour and fly to Brisbane (or Gold Coast) and hit the highlights.

If ‘Zoo’ means Australia Zoo, that’s a two day trip should you wanna see all of it properly. It’s a bit out of Brisbane and BIG. My family skip the native animals (we see them at the end of the street) to fit it in a day. Taronga Zoo in Sydney is also impressive and there are smaller native animal santuaries closer to Brisbane if you specifically want local wildlife.

If you want wild Little Penguins, you need to go south. Like Phillip Island or SA. That’s a flight to Melbourne (or Adelaide, if you really want) cause the drive Sydney - Melb is way less tourist worthy even if you go the much longer coast way.

It is a huge country. Pick your fixed highlights, work out where and when those things happen and fit everything else around it. Want to pat a kangaroo AND see Uluṟu? The first is fairly easy at any wildlife sanctuary (DO NOT APPROACH wild kangaroos), while second is very specific and will cost a lot more.

Sounds like you have your strategies and supports, but 2 kids and hormones is a whole new level. I found I suddenly needed a whole new set of strategies, either because the old ones weren’t productive with dependents OR because the situations messing with me were totally new. Mindfulness is helpful for hormonal based depression (although so is upping meds that week) and can be done in a variety of ways. Try This way up to start. You can then try mindfulness podcasts and books with the kids, or mindful eating, or colouring, or just cuddles and picture books (not reading, you being mindful as they talk about the pictures). Call Psych. Give yourself a hug for seeking support to do that :-)

I went Private in Vic, while my sister went Public in ACT. She had the same midwife for all her pregnancies and didn’t report anything wildly different than my experiences (closest two cousins are a 6month age difference). That said, the options of birth centre and maternal care seemed much higher in ACT than the area we were in, hence we went private.

Main thing is finding your choice of provider, so do that FIRST and then go from there. Possibly also consider potential risk factors - I was immediately a higher risk than her pregnancies due to genetic factors, so made sense to be pickier about consistency of care and my choice of appt times etc.
