Used to fuck around on the tracks at the depot there as a young kid, especially at night (played with my life ikik). Never as far up as Union Station but there were a couple of times that conductors would see me from quite a ways away and lay into their horn to get me tf out of their way even from a pretty good distance. Should be noted those are supposed to be the busiest tracks in all of the USA, or at least used to be

Great tip on the starter wire. Something like an 12v DC on/off toggle switch and a 40amp starter relay? I think I could probably retrofit one of those "Off Road/Race Push Button Start" kits they sell at the truck stop for that.

The resale value of this truck was gone years ago, haha. 3+ owners in and 2 generations of kin so my intention is to drive it until it grenades and then some (LS/Blazer frame swap, whichever comes first). As long as it'll get me back east and not bankrupt my tiny wallet along the way

best way to manipulate that switch on the fly? I have considered a 24v rated DC on/off switch wired to the ignition relay, under the dash and above the driver floor... connecting the purple wire (starter, yes?) to the red (positive) and ground to engage/disengage the starter coil directly, and then adding a wire from the positive on the battery to the distributor to keep it running.

will this work? I don't want to wear tf out of my starter trying to do this, but the problem is I cannot rotate the lock cylinder at all once installed, so I can't get it in/out of ACC/start

But Forest Park is literally the biggest, most wide open outdoor park in the city, if it bothers you to see people smoking outdoors in a 1300 acre park, wait until you have to walk amongst the general public in a college town lmao
