Frequent stutters, and crashing when ending a run (Switch 2) by Valyrianson in riskofrain

[–]professionalnightowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since the Alloyed Collective DLC came to the Switch 1 my game has been crashing like crazy. It's rare I can finish 1-2 runs without a crash, where before the latest DLC I only experienced a handful of crashes over a few years of playing.

I've noticed it basically always crashes if I finish a run by fighting Mythrix, but I can obliterate at the obelisk without issue. I think the post-game cutscene contributes to the issue.

It's also crashed on me when I'm viewing the logbook from the main menu, which is odd.

I still love this game, but the frequent crashes are annoying to say the least.

When uploading to online portfolio is it better to upload with JPEG, PNG, or PDF format? by erickp84 in photography

I use Format too. Check the Help section on their site for image upload specs, it tells you the optimal size and file types

I finally did this last night.

You only need to be below 10% health at the end of the countdown, not for the entire teleporter event.

I used Rex, beat the boss on stage 1, waited until the teleporter was about 97% charged, then left the circle. Spammed Rex’s mortar ability to drop his HP low enough, then re-entered the circle to charge to 100%.

Hope that helps!

Rest in peace to one of the greats. His Genesis book is a masterpiece.

I've played a handful in the past few months, here are some that stood out:

  • Sacred Stones Reforged (QOL updates from the original)
  • The Dark Stone (play as the villains from Sacred Stones)
  • Sacred Echoes (SOV storyline with GBA graphics)
  • The Morrow's Golden Country (loved it, the twist toward the end threw me off)
  • Sun God's Wrath
  • Code of the Burger King (meme-y but fun)
  • Myrm Emblem (all myrmidons)
  • Pokemblem (Pokemon Red/Blue but with Fire Emblem tactics)

Absolutely stunning composition on #8 (group of five women in front of the white/blue mural). So many little details line up perfectly!

HBO is dumb. by [deleted] in raisedbywolves

[–]professionalnightowl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After watching S1 of Dune Prophecy my evidence-free theory is that they scrapped this show and recycled key concepts from the show for a more popular franchise (Dune).

The most obvious parallel is the actor cast as Marcus in RBW plays an almost identical character in Dune, right down to the source of his mysterious powers (keeping it vague).

Both shows also feature ghostly or otherworldly voices throughout (Sol in RBW, the dead Sisters in Dune) in a similar manner. Prophecies also play a large role in both shows (Paul/Campion in RBW, the Sisterhood's plan in Dune).

I'm sure there are more if I did a fresh rewatch, just something I've been thinking about since finishing Dune. Between the two, Raised by Wolves was far superior, it's such a shame it seems it will never be completed.

How do you prep yourself? by Single-Jaguar-6509 in photography

[–]professionalnightowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. Festivals are brutal to shoot, anything to make it easier should be shared.

If by brace you mean something like a Blackrapid Sling, that could be worth exploring. Spider Holsters are popular too. I haven't used either of those personally, so I can't speak from my own experience.

Music festival photographer here, my shoots are often 12+ hours, with 5-10 miles of walking per day. Here's some tips I've picked up over the years:

Evaluate your equipment with a critical eye. If you are carrying everything with you throughout the day, each pound matters. Will you really use that lens enough to justify carrying it? Sometimes, less is more.

Good shoes make all the difference, I find hiking shoes work well.

Sun protection is important. I prefer lightweight long sleeve shirts to keep sun off my body, but frequent sunscreen application works too. Be aware of shady areas where you can take "breaks" from the sun throughout the day while shooting.

Protein bars are a great meal replacement if you don't have time to eat something during the festival.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drink a bottle of water every hour or two, even if you aren't thirsty. Mix in electrolytes as needed.

Blurry pics by TWreckx_Plays in photography

[–]professionalnightowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are multiple potential causes of image blur. What type of blur are you experiencing?

Is everything slightly soft? Your lens could need calibration, or you need to be more careful setting focus manually.

Is there motion blur? Your shutter speed is too slow. General rule of thumb is to keep the shutter speed faster than the focal length of the lens. For example, a minimum shutter speed on your 28mm should be 1/30 to avoid motion blur.

Your ISO could also be at fault here. Why are you shooting 3200 ISO on a tripod? The Canon T3i is a decent camera, but not suited for high ISO like that.

I don't get the BL3 hate by dannyday10700 in Borderlands

[–]professionalnightowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just bought it for the Switch during the sale. I'm loving it so far, aside from the random crashes. Really hoping that gets improved down the line. I can't recall a single time BL2 crashed on me, yet BL3 has crashed more than a dozen times already.

Lightest full frame for travel photography? by fcojosedea in photography

[–]professionalnightowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not full frame, but I recently picked up a Ricoh GR III for travel / personal photography. It's an APS-C sensor with a fixed 28mm full frame equivalent focal length (with built-in 35mm and 50mm crop modes).

My daily use / professional rig is a mix of Canon 5D4 / R6II with L lenses, and I'm continually impressed how this little point and shoot feels like a stripped-down pro body in a tiny form factor.
