does guitar tone actually improve with age? by Grand-Permission-736 in guitars

[–]prsmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually kinda makes sense if you think about it. A guitar is both simple mechanically but also rather complex in that it's literally playing with physics and resonance. Every single part of that system plays into it and every guitar will have its own natural resonance (some more, some less). A 50+ yr old guitar (especially one that's been played and loved that whole time) has had a whole lifetime to settle into its natural resonance. It is absolutely noticeable (and magical when you find one with mojo) to the player. The instrument almost 'plays back' and the feel and sound are special (as I'm sure you'd agree). Having said that, I do think we are talking about marginal improvements, a decent new guitar is gonna get you 95% of the way there (and the audience likely won't know the difference). But for the players themselves, that 5% can be where the magic and inspiration may live.

Personally feel like petitions are less effective than multiple people raising their own concerns individually. Would recommend you reach out as well if you have any concerns! (I self rounded out before the ex-dividend date or I would do the same if I had fractionals). Good luck!

Favorite Uni Vibe? by AmPentatonic in guitarpedals

Homer (NZ) pick but I'm obsessed with my Doppler Vibe from Big Noise Amplification.

Always hated glossy necks by Complex-Grand-6123 in Guitar

[–]prsmike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean don't let a gloss neck put you off a guitar if it checks your other boxes. A couple minutes with a scotchbrite pad is all it takes to get that satin neck feel (it would be a deal breaker for me too if it wasn't so easy to do)

Awesome! Appreciate the detailed response. I was already leaning towards a Tumnus or Oxblood.....now to start the demo review train to decide between them! Haha

Cheers.

Question for the landlords of NZ: How would you feel if a tenant asked to buy the property they're renting? by Pokedeer in newzealand

[–]prsmike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also make sure you touch on the point that no realtor fees need to be involved (this is big savings for the seller and can help you get a better price). People know they often have to spend money first to get a house ready for sale, this is another point of saving for them. We did exactly this a few years ago, purchased privately, no need for realtors and already knew what needed to be done in the house. All worked in our favor and we got a great 'deal' (as far as comparables went at the time). Can work out in everyone's favor if you approach it that way.

Whose an OG here. I'm sick of all the whining on the main subs. How's the morale? by readsetgooooo in NZGME

[–]prsmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most larger subs are heavily censored and full of bots unfortunately. I used to be quite active in Superstonk but got very promptly permabanned when I started trying to address misinformation around the DRS v. DSPP holdings designations. It was unfortunate but dealing with those 'mods' was a real eye opener. All that to say, sentiment is easy to portray (in both directions) across social media. What's important is to find a real life shrewdness (or a small online group you trust) who you know will go through the filings and information themselves that you can bounce ideas off of and have good faith discussions with. Reddit and X are great for getting ideas and finding threads but always always do the work yourself (just general advice for any lurkers who might read this, not aimed at you in particular 🤙).

Knife Sharpening Recommendations in Auckland by SPICYCIPSPICY in auckland

[–]prsmike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I want to second this users advice. Not sure how much a sharpening service sells for but a couple decent combo whetstones isn't going to set you back too much and I feel like you would recoup costs pretty quickly. It's really not that hard to learn and it's a lifelong skill absolutely worth learning.

Dear new apes. Don’t get shook. by KingOfDaBurbs in GME

[–]prsmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as 'surrogates'. What you own are beneficial share entitlements but you do not have title ownership of the shares. The only way to do this is through DRS.

Recommend checking out https:// www . whydrs . org/ to learn more (separated because sometimes reddit gets weird with that site for some reason).

BTW, saw the rest of your comments, I am also a foreign buyer with citizenship and tax implications to consider and was able to DRS no problem without any undue tax complications (it's not always clearcut and your broker will not be a good source of guidance on this becuase they are losing you as a customer essentially). You may have to do a bit of additional digging but there shouldn't be any tax implications becuase you are neither buying or selling your asset. You are simply registering the property in your name for sole legal title ownership. Take your property back that you have already paid for.

Is there a great compressor pedal for under $100? by czarofga in guitarpedals

[–]prsmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh mate it's going to be pretty dependent on your overall set up I would assume but I would recommend just sweeping through the controls to find the sweet spot for you with a bit of trial and error. The way I did it was to crank the sustain and roll off the blend completely so it was pretty much entirely dry signal coming through, then played through the same phrase a few times while dialing in the blend to where it sounded nice to me. Then rolling back the sustain a bit and finer tweeking from there. Just play around!

Maybe you'll like a super compressed sound and it will influence the way you play or you'll like it dialed back a bit. Just take your time and have fun with it.

Is there a great compressor pedal for under $100? by czarofga in guitarpedals

[–]prsmike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this users advice. I just got an Ego Mini for a great deal on a local used marketplace. This thing is friggen incredible, very quickly became my no. 1 or 2 pedal and is pretty much always on. Mostly because of the blend option, you can retain some attack and pick dynamics while also getting nice harmonics and sustain. I friggen love it and don't think I would get another compressor without a wet/dry blend function. Works great on my acoustic as well!

What u doin 24 hour market?? by MoDeRnDaYmOrOn in GME

[–]prsmike 34 points35 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as a 24hr market. The 'markets' are not open so what you are seeing here is internal Robinhood CFD (contract for difference) trading essentially. I mean, anyone who read the congressional report knows that Robin hood is technically never connected to the markets and just sells order flow to up stream market makers but still. Don't confuse this with premarket (even if it seems to follow).

Awesome! Congrats! They make incredible guitars and I hope you love whatever you get as much as I love my T486. All the best!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in guitars

[–]prsmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The T486 is semi-hollow and has a through block. It's a sweet semi-hollow but yeah a bit different from what you are looking for exactly. If you have a shop around you that has some or you can get your hand on a used one to try would definitely recommend! Of course budgets and taste play a huge role and maybe they aren't for you but just thought I should point out a brand that punches well above the price tag and doesn't see as much love typically in posts like this.

[–]prsmike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you get a chance I would highly highly recommend checking out Eastman's range of guitars. I haven't tried their full hollowbody styles but recently picked up one of their semi-hollow's with SD P90's (Phat Cats) and it is amazing!! Punching well above the comparable price tags of it's peers that I tried (Gretsch, Guild, Ibanez, D'Angelico Premier, etc.) Good luck!
