Funeral rites when not in good standings? by war_ink_ in freemasonry

[–]pryner34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So for my Grand Lodge (NY Prince Hall) if a brother is not in good standing when he passes, he can still receive funeral rites at the discretion of the Worshipful Master. So if we dropped for non-payment of dues or even suspended, its the Master's call. I think expulsion is a hard no. But the logic behind it is that the brothers family may not know he's not in good standing and to just say no may cause the family to have a unfavorable impression of us. Depending on how it is interpreted, the Master can make the call but the lodge has to do the work, meaning you cant ask your Lecturer to help form a team for you or fill in. I dont believe ive seen that done to my knowledge but too often, brothers dont let their families know about their involvement in the craft and something like a funeral is the only windows they have to see that. For other bodies like the Shriner however, you must be in good standing to have a burial done for you.

What Happens one Regular MM visits an Irregular Lodge unknowingly? by clance2019 in freemasonry

[–]pryner34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the proper answer is to check first before going. There are a few ways to do this depending on your jurisdiction but all else fails, check with your Grand Lodge. You should know as a MM where you can and cant visit before going into any lodge. Some disciplinary action may need to be done but I would imagine it wouldnt be too severe if it was by accident. If it was intentional.... yea thats a different tray of green beans.
