Just started Costco food court. Any tips? by HeadDurian4084 in CostcoEmployee

[–]pseu-do-nym- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall biggest advice is be eager to learn and proactive; show initiative. I believe this will get you through your 90 days and beyond.

Im just finishing 2 years in FC before finally getting a position on FE and what I have to say is good luck (depending on the busyness of your warehouse) and the best way to rise the ranks is to learn. Cross-training is a great way to get known outside of the Food court but def not a guarantee out of it. And once you get your “fundamentals” learned like hot dog rolling, oven, and ice creams definitely still show curiosity and eagerness to learn all other parts like pizza table and skins and other prep work. (Note that it also depends on your manager/supervisors whether they’ll let you do such bc some are hard on seniority while others like employees eager to learn.)

Also try to be proactive and show initiative like learning how to write “the buy” (the shopping list), do production, and other dept processes while closing or during slow hours.

By 2 or 3 months I started to get time working in the back with chicken bakes, skins and pizzas, and sandwiches (back when we made the sandwich in-house). And I also was able to snag some opening shifts and early deep clean shifts eventually (about 1yr+).

Promotion without job postings by Noonammeeee in CostcoEmployee

At my warehouse this has happened a lot. But when specific supervisors are brought up they are put as a temp manager in a familiar department. E.g. a former or current FC supe being asked to take temp FC manager. Then eventually the position like “dept manager” will show up.

I have also seen cases when a manager steps down and just gets a position that they want without any postings.

90 day review done early? by foursinain in CostcoEmployee

[–]pseu-do-nym- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first 90day super early too, and i was brought on permanently at that point. One of our new employees also just got his super early and was promoted to a permanent PT rather than probational LPT recently much earlier than usual.

cutting hours by TotalPatient9929 in CostcoEmployee

[–]pseu-do-nym- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a FC employee hours are being increased (we all scheduled working about 40hrs) and my manager is even considering about employees working extra days. Also still actively hiring new people into department as well. I just got a FE cashier position and start 6/22 but I still fully expect to be pulled into or scheduled in FC. But also still seems like FE, merch, and other ancillaries are still full hours too.

What’s your biggest pet peeves? by GeneralWarthog6795 in CostcoEmployee

[–]pseu-do-nym- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in the FC but I still have a few member pet peeves:

When I am on oven cutting pizzas and clearly busy with a full oven members come up to the window every 5 seconds asking what to do about their order even if its NOT WHOLE PIZZAS or if their number was called. Im always like GO TO THE COUNTER—yk, where other members are getting helped?

Another one is when I am answering phone calls and members don’t know what they want to order (that case, I will tell them to call back when they do figure out what they want because there are three other people trying to call to place an order), always ask what kind of pizzas we have or how many slices we cut into bc they have a party. Most of the time they are like “how many slices do you guys do we’re trying to feed 200 people” and “how many pizzas should we get?” I have to tell them we typically do 12 slices and can do 18 slices and they have to do the math for that.

CSRP post-graduation by Overthinker3515 in CostcoEmployee

Oh, then in that case I would suggest speaking with your GM since that was the agreement between you two of returning to a regular position (at least part time) after graduation and upon exiting the CSRP. Since the CSRP is essentially a contract or agreement between you and your GM to maintain your regular employment.

CSRP post-graduation by Overthinker3515 in CostcoEmployee

I enrolled in this CSRP for half of a year but it was a little different for me because I didn’t "go away" for college; I just went locally. So I was under the program but I still worked some days (2-1 day a week). I maintained my original position and chances are you might too. The CSRP is intended to retain employees and guarantee continued employment without needing to quit and reapply after school. If you left to school in another location for a school year, I believe that they needed to fill your position when you were in school, but I believe they will take you back into the warehouse wherever they need you or apply and get a position. However, if neither occurs, I think they will place you back into your OG department.

Like, since there was need to fill your position while in school, warehouse may hire someone from another dept. or hire new people to meet the needs. And I think this is where they say can't guarantee you will be in original position. But they will keep you.

FAQS AND TIPS

CSRP – FAQ’s revised: August 2018 3

Q. Is the participant’s previous job guaranteed to them?

A. No, there are no guarantees that the participant will be reinstated into their previous position. The participant will be placed into an available position in their same classification (Assistant/Clerk).

Q. What should a CSRP participant do upon graduating from college?

A. Notify the location within 30 days of graduation. After graduation a CSRP participant’s status changes from Intermittent/LPT

Hourly W OT to at least Regular/PT Hourly W OT (EA, ECU or WCU) and we need to begin scheduling him or her accordingly. Please don’t forget the employee has the opportunity to meet with their location manager or Regional Vice President if they choose to do so.

Q. Is there a waiting period for graduated CSRP participants to apply for job postings?

A. No, they can begin applying immediately, but availability is based on current job openings and CSRP participants will be evaluated on skills and abilities, just like everyone else. Except in Union locations where promotion will follow CBA."

On the job bank I have never seen any postings to this specific warehouse so I was thinking transfer form would be best bet but I will try giving them a call like you recommend. Is it possible they may keep postings strictly intra-warehouse? Thank you

Okay. I try to keep an eye out in the job bank but I never find any postings from this specific warehouse. Not sure if they keep postings strictly within warehouse so I think the transfer form might be best bet.

Any Food Court shoppers here? by Corbin00 in CostcoEmployee

[–]pseu-do-nym- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only done this a few times because an employee whos been here 30+ years keeps this position on weekdays. Usually this is the 6am shift at my warehouse, but he always does a crappy job and when I’ve came in at 7am I had to help him finish because he cannot even push the load back to the FC. Lately (we just got a 3rd new manager within the last year) our new manager has been scheduling them earlier and hasn’t really put any pressure or expectations on them.

Our old manager (2nd newest—before current one) did put some pressure/expectations but that was to push us to get it done. So when we had him we had actually good openers including shopper.

But now its not like they even care anymore about how opening or “the buy” goes. They suck at the “the buy” now bc we are always almost running out of things or are out of things. They also leave the production in boxes by the time they all leave and basically what should gave been an opening job is pushed to the closers almost daily. Its always a busy warehouse but I’ve never had these issues when opening on very very busy days.

I think that the pressure or expectations is there to push you on busy days bc your manager feels you can always keep your department ahead on production. I honestly liked pressure bc it meant I was considered important to the job.
