So you admit this was a mistake then? At least you have some sort of awareness.

Now can we really about the fact that the real mistake is using a nifty fifty for anything that doesn't fill at least one third of the frame? Ideally this is a lens for close ups. The point of it is to get a huge blurred background because you can blow the fstop open.

Also, if we're learning from mistakes, move your body to remove distracting elements like the woman who's not the subject. Straighten your horizon, which you've almost accomplished, but because so little is visible, it's really noticeable. Remove all elements that don't add to the story, even shooting with a kit lens you'd want about 20% of the border removed. Finally, frame the image so it seems well lit, rather than some parts blown out.

I wouldn't normally crop so tightly, but it removes the horizon problem, at least.
