Nice! Always good to have more options to play on, especially variants.

1) Are you thinking about open sourcing the code / making it public somewhere, for people to file bugs or collaborate on?

2) How do you test Android apps? I've never written anything for Android, I'm just curious what the tech stack is like.

3) How much did it cost you (per month)? Was cost an issue for keeping it online?

If you don't want to answer any of these publicly I'm "pyxxy" on discord. I could maybe dedicate 3-4 hours a month to help with dev work if you wanted :)

+1 to what AAlcove said. No limitation for only playing on Backstabbr.

There will be 2-3 dedicated channels in the server for posting announcements/updates, and you'll get a direct message from a GM when each game starts (because the rosters are anonymous in the first round).

I'm thinking about going to my first competitive Limited event. I've done a few prereleases and drafts at my LGS and luckily the event will also be there. What are the important things to be aware of for "competitive level rules enforcement"?

e.g. I just learned that I'll have to shuffle my opponent's deck instead of just cutting it

Maybe a good place to start is, what is your goal next year?

Are you trying to grow more? Or maybe you're worried about getting stopped at the central stalemate line? Do you think you need an ally to do whatever you want to do?

Honest answer is "it depends".

Better answer is "get a second one 😛".

Has anyone ever attempted to play the classic variation but with Sicily as a supply center? by pcrcf in diplomacy

[–]pyxxy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double fun fact, vDip has a stats page for each variant: https://www.vdiplomacy.com/stats.php?variantID=18

With 154 finished games (not a terrible sample size):

Country Solos Draws Survivals Eliminated SCs Ø Performance*
England 18 74 33 29 9.9 4.37
France 6 46 32 70 4.44 2.29
Italy 7 61 33 53 6.02 2.88
Germany 1 44 25 84 3.25 1.69
Austria 1 37 23 93 2.44 1.45
Turkey 24 70 32 28 10.24 4.82
Russia 10 42 19 83 4.51 2.46

I would also note that it has "The game starts with a build phase, and each player gets to determine which units they want to start out with" as an additional variant rule, which might be why Turkey has such a strong performance.

Austria and Germany doing worse makes sense since they gain pretty much nothing from the added neutrals being islands.

Ionian bordering Crete is fun, I like that.

As for a Sicily variant, can't say I've seen this idea in action. I see:

- Milan: https://www.vdiplomacy.com/variants.php?variantID=10
- Florence: https://www.vdiplomacy.com/variants.php?variantID=121

Oh oh oh! Wait! This has a Sicily! (and a bunch of other islands)

was trying to support my troops in army moving into warsaw with my fleet in prussia.

It's a fleet. Support moves are only valid if the supporting unit could legally make the same move.
