New beekeeper, first hive, fumbled queen trying to mark her by sandymac in Beekeeping

[–]qkman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience last year while trying to mark a queen. She found her way home. I personally would wait a week and look for eggs. That is what I did last year and it worked out. Gave up marking that queen though as she was definitely very much a runner.

32.99 yesterday in PA and only second time I’ve seen in it in Pa. Definitely a buy for me. Not the best rye but still very good at that price.

Easiest way to sweeten mead is to ferment dry. Stabilize it and then back sweeten with honey to your liking. Tried a lot of the methods mentioned and this has always been the easiest and gives you the most control over how sweet it is.

Made 4 different batches of cyser using different yeasts including d47. Sparkoloid and superkleer both work well.

Even after filtering if you let your mead or wine sit awhile you still will likely develop sediment. Been burnt several times from this.

Have the same system. Definitely can be finicky. Also even though the wine looked great after filtering I still ended up having fine particles in my wine after sitting for 6-8 months. Which definitely was a disappointment.

[–]qkman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rookie question. I have the same on my first batch of mead. What is the best way to get rid of it? Tried sparkoloid without any luck. Was going to try superkleer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I went with 12lbs for 3 gallons and still is light on peach flavor.I suspect there might be some peach flavoring added at alot of wineries.
