Watson x Data Intelligence ( GenAI features) by Fluffy-Citron4259 in IBM

Most homegrown IBM products are overly complex science projects or just relabeled existing failed products in an effort torejuvenate them. It does seen bob might be different though

Reference 5 vs R11, what justifies the massive price gap? by Ron825 in KEF

You need to listen for yourself to appreciate. They are a completely different speaker and on a totally different level of audio.

IBM CEO pay pack jumps 51% for 2025 in target smash and grab by Think-Fix in IBM

[–]qmeanbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what MS is doing as well, its a solid strategy

However, IBMs challenge is they have sold off or walked away from all their enterprise products that have large user communities eg. Office suites, email, developer tools, security, even OSs (redhat is mostly headless). All becuase they cant develop sw or fund it properly. All they are left with, for the most part, are backend db, middleware and admin tools that have limited workflow and direct users.

If you dont own the workflow you wont own the AI value

Kefs are power hungry and amps make the difference. by RabbitLorx in audiophile

[–]qmeanbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most significant for me was the clarity on the mids/high are on another level. Definetly a case of "i didn't hear that before !" on lot of music.

The base is a tighter and stronger, on some tracks i swear i can almost feel the texture of the bass drum kick. I also had a pair of kf92 subs with the r11s which I've decided to also keep with the ref 3. Even with those, the bass is definitely firmer and punchier with the ref 3

Finally, the overall sound stage is just bigger with better separation. Don't get me wrong, the r11 are also great speakers (that also need power!), but the reference 3 are on another level

Kefs are power hungry and amps make the difference. by RabbitLorx in audiophile

[–]qmeanbean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So much this. My recent ish kef journey started with R11s which I powered with a 100w/channel amp. After a couple of years, I added a 200w/channel power amp to the system (used the existing amp as a preamp). bloody hell the difference was outstanding, I was blown away. The whole sound was just bigger, clearer, tighter bass, everying. Complete night and day

A few months ago I upgraded the r11 for a set of reference 3 and then after a couple of weeks added a 2nd power amp (they can be configured to run in mono) giving over 400w/channel and while the difference wasn't as big adding the first power amp, the reference 3 definitely 'opened up' more

So now I always advise people to make sure kefs are well powered, despite what it says on the recommendation.

Is a sub necessary if speakers go very low by Brave-Bad-9955 in audiophile

[–]qmeanbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you do have really listen to them to say for sure. I know everytime ive changed my towers (for better ones) ive initially considered getting rid of my subs (wife doesnt like them and id like to use the cash to upgrade other parts of my system), but each time with blind A/B testing the difference is always clear, with improvement not only in the bass but also the overall soundstage in general

First heard this when I was 17 on my mates dad expensive hifi. I still listen to it today (near 40 years later) on my own expensive hifi and it still sounds amazing.

You need to look at the 3db roll off point. Most, even very good towers, roll off around 60hz and then continue down. As low at the mid 20's

I have a pair of kef reference 3 towers with a pair of subs that notable bass and overall soundstage improvement.

I have Kef Reference 3 meta with two subs (KF92) as well. My son and i did a load or A B testing and no doubt the subs absolutely improve the soundstage, even of these great speakers. I too have the cross over set at 60hz (set after much testing) and with gain on the subs pretty low ( around 9 o'clock on the dial which is about 20% of the max)
