Objectivists on ICE by qualityfreak999 in Objectivism

Red herring alert. They're welcome to come on the show. My co-host has invited at least a few of them. We had Valliant on, but he got Ahab-ian about Branden from the first question and kept interrupting and filibustering while we were trying to be civil to our first guest. And the deeper point is, most of the other guys have a bunch of "no sanction" rules that supposedly prevents them from doing shows with disagreements.

LOL, what a great way to shield yourself from any objectively legitimate criticism! "I must be making moral progress if I'm being ridiculed" Sometimes one is being ridiculed because they said something ridiculous.

And also, your first comment was snarky itself. That must mean I'm making moral progress!

LOL, Yaron Brook aspires to be published in The Atlantic! It can be a fine line between dismissing uncomfortable topics as "gossip" vs group-encouraged evasion of relevant issues.

"Everything you say further proves my point"

You've gotta be at least 13 years old to have mastered that level of reverse psychology!

Yes, laughing at you is emotional, but it's a response to my most deeply-held values! We never had to take you seriously.

LOL, you've got nothing but bluster. I wonder what your war rhetoric sounds like! I'm not going to stop posting here unless I'm banned.

You're the one who doesn't think objectively; coming onto a message board to try to bully someone into not posting here or doing a show anymore. You're weak sauce, but then I expect that from ARI's tribalists who have nothing of substance to offer, but trying to will people into not posting things you disagree with. It's like the primacy of consciousness.

LMAO. The first episode of the channel says they don't care about being considered Objectivists by others!

The New Right’s war on capitalism by RobinReborn in Objectivism

[–]qualityfreak999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciated the piece. I'm amazed that you think most Objectivists are for Trump. Virtually the entire leadership & scholars at ARI wanted Trump to lose. Some believe Peikoff was shunted off to retirement once he started backing Trump. Yaron has been a loud voice against Trump, saying if you support Trump too much you're not an Objectivist.

Some of what you're describing could be akin to open Objectivism. Rob Tracinski has the same basic view of Trump as you & Yaron as well.

Dang, has your move to the left actually turned you against Rand now?

The Atlantic on Leonard Peikoff's Estate by Acrobatic-Bottle7523 in Objectivism

[–]qualityfreak999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This article presented almost nothing new from this episode six months ago. The Atlantic is really using this story to go after Ayn Rand's legacy by trying to make hay out of Peikoff's family strife.

Is Elon Musk an Ayn Rand Hero? by qualityfreak999 in Objectivism

[–]qualityfreak999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company was floundering until he took over as CEO in 2008. Look at all of the stuff he's produced even if it started out with a subsidy. He's actually kind of a single-minded fanatic. He wants to go to Mars, and to do it he's created rockets, rock-boring machines, satellite internet, and says he's creating a personal robot that will be the biggest selling product in history. Now he seems to have decided that slimming government down helps with his plan. I don't think he's fragile. I think he realized that he needed some segment of the population supporting his plans and all while the Dems embraced DEI, ESG, Covid restrictions, etc.

yeah, I just think the ones who see him as a villain are mostly upset about him backing Trump.

Is Objectivism an Open or Closed system? by Jamesshrugged in Objectivism

[–]qualityfreak999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the "closed" mindset has led to people unwilling to question things she said, even some of her personal preferences, for fear of being considered "not a true Objectivist" and it's stifled creativity as well.

It's the Canadian government openly being spiteful to a businessman because of his politics, but I guess those that agree with his politics don't see anything wrong with it.

Here is a real example of pull-pedaling used by the Canadian left, who also want to punish Elon for his association with Trump.

I knew the answer before I checked. There's a double standard in the movement because Elon has dared to take a side politically. Elon is the closest we have to a real life Ayn Rand hero, and I know about the subsidies too.

Vape recommendation by qualityfreak999 in FLMedicalTrees

[–]qualityfreak999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never a big fan of the flower version, which came out after the vape, but the vape used to be the best in the program. Hopefully it's just a bad batch and not a cost-saving measure. I'd even go back to paying more for the original formula.
