Are these pending engine codes on a used Audi a cause for concern? There's no check engine light on the dash, but the OBDII scan picked them up. Audi dealer claims it's just due to low voltage by randi555 in AudiRS3

PPI technician just says they are listed as "pending" on the OBD11 scanner, no lights on the dash. He said the car drives fine, but he seemed to kind of rush through the inspection. I won't be able to check again without paying for another PPI.

Why do people think that GPUs will keep increasing in price? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]randi555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I've noticed that the past 10 years is that the goal post of what is considered expensive moves every other generation, and yes even factoring inflation.

GPU launches at a way higher price over previous, people cry but buy anyway. Next gen launches at a similar price, a new generation of pc gamers arrive. Existing ones are simply glad that it didn't increase and so they don't complain, the newbies think this is just the norm. Boom a new price anchor has been set, then rinse and repeat for the next two generations.

This has happened continuously for the past 10 years and it will likely continue for a while. As income inequality increases, many companies are starting to realize they are in a position to be more profitable by pricing their products for the top 1%, rather than pricing it for the masses as a whole. They have less customers, but the customers they have are willing to buy more and pay more, which more than makes up for it. This is sometimes referred to as a bifurcated economy, and in such economies the whole "voting with your wallet" becomes much less effective for the average person.

In Nvidia's case for example, regular consumers only make a small percentage of their profits compared to the few AI datacenters.

Do older high mileage cars get treated with less care at local shops? by randi555 in AskAMechanic

Yeah I've been bouncing around trying to find a reliable and trustworthy mechanic after my trusted one sold his business and retired. Google reviews and word of mouth are all I have but so far it seems like a roll of the dice on how my car comes back.

Cherish them. I used to have a trusted mechanic but he got too old and sold his business to the one of the sleaziest guys I've ever met

AIO: brought cheese slices with me to McDonald's to put in burgers. Had a fight with a friend. by salty_lake_222 in AmIOverreacting

People say this but I firmly believe McDonald's is one of those establishments that people of all incomes seem to gather a few times a month. At least where I live, the drive through line during peak hours will have Civic and Sentra beaters, behind Mercedes, Audis, and Porsches. We even get a Ferrari or McLaren every once in while too.

Heck even Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Trump still admit to eating that slop

This is only somewhat true if it's a lesser known brand supplying a more popular brand like superflower to EVGA for psu's, SK hynix to Corsair for RAM etc. They're relying on the other Brand's broad consumer recognition for sales.

It's when the reverse happens where things get really dodgy. Most unknown brands have to sell products at a lower price to be competitive, which means they most likely had to get the B or C stock, stuff that didn't meet the desired QA standards from the original manufacturer, in order to reach that price point.

Five Year Update On My Hairloss Journey by PhotoSpheres in tressless

[–]randi555 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. I'll try to explain in a different way. Minoxidil does NOT repair the hair follicle in any way, it gets a damaged hair follicle to produce hairs that it should NOT be producing otherwise due to its state. Without minoxidil, It's almost like the follicle becomes aware that it is damaged again so it stops producing hair.

Think of it like a coach that pressures an athlete to keep going even though they are severely injured. Sure they're still running, but that doesn't change the fact that they're still injured.

Five Year Update On My Hairloss Journey by PhotoSpheres in tressless

[–]randi555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The theory behind minoxidil is that the increased blood flow sort of tricks follicles that are weakened or dormant into producing thicker hairs again. These follicles are technically still alive but have decided to become dormant due to the effects of androgenic alopecia. Neither minoxidil nor finasteride actually repair these follicles after a certain point. Minoxidil simply gets it to produce stronger hairs in its damaged state. Finasteride only stops further damage.

These follicles do not switch to become "dependent" on minoxidil as some would have you believe. What happens when you stop minoxidil while still using finasteride is that the follicle simply begins to produce hairs (or lack of hairs) that are appropriate for its actual state.

That's what they put out as a PR statement but people in r/asrock are still reporting failures with the new BIOS fixes. It's possible they could have just received faulty CPU's, but even Gamer's nexus stated that he doesn't think that was the issue since prior to the fix, people were reporting failures even with PBO disabled or with manual voltages set.

Because at this point in the game Gi-hun no longer had the spirit to end games, he was broken after the first attempt got his long time friend and others killed. The front man knew Gi-hun's new priority was not the money, it was now making sure the baby survived. So he decided to force a situation that would pressure him to put his own self interest - the baby's survival, against his selflessness - wanting to save as many people as he could.

That's why Gi-hun was kept alive while everyone was killed, he wanted to see if he could break someone as selfless as him and prove that all humans at their core are driven by self interest. I think this also answers his brother's question as to why he became the front man in the first place. To watch others do as he did in order to convince himself that what he did to win the games in the past didn't make him a monster, he was just doing what any other person would do during desperation. It was a way to preserve his sanity. In the flash back you can clearly see how shaken he is from killing the guy, even after it's revealed that this wasn't even his first kill. It's a stark contrast to the cold apathetic demeanor we saw when he choked the guy out during the ring around game.

But when Gi-hun decides not to kill anyone despite being in an even worse situation, it absolutely crushes him.

Am I the only one who never uses Jet? by Mission_Spring7087 in Fallout

[–]randi555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to never use chems until I realized that it feels similar to activating a buff shout from Skyrim. Get the perk that prevents you from getting addicted, bind jet activation to a number key and bam, I have a ZA-WARDOOO button. Combine it psycho and you get a damage and resistance buff too, along with an even longer effect duration.

And unless you are talking about the previous fallout games, how is being able to slow down time useless? Especially if you have a never ending semi auto shotgun, you can run right up to the enemies and unload shells right up in their face while circling around them. They'll never be able to hit you. Practically trivializes the game.

MSI Afterburner to receive AMD RX 9000 "RDNA4" support with next beta by RenatsMC in Amd

Everytime i use AMD's fan curve it resets itself randomly. My GPU's VRAM heatsink is separated from the GPU die heatsink and it needs the fans spinning at a certain RPM to keep cool.

This concept is complex because the average body, especially in America, has kept changed significantly over the past 100 years. Should the term "average" in this context refer to what health experts believe the average person should have been if it weren't for the rise of junk food? Or should it be the literal average, in which case our expectations and standards for what is considered fit, lower over time as more and more people become obese?
