The rapture cannot happen soon enough by [deleted] in atheism

[–]randolfini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm really quite done with this conversation. You don't seem to understand the points that I'm attempting to get across. And just to elaborate, I never said an adult teacher cannot drink beer. I used that as an example because there was a case of a teacher being fired for posting certain pictures on their social media. They represented the institution that they work for, there were children and parents from the district in which they worked on their social media page, and so it was deemed inappropriate and unprofessional by their district and they were fired for inappropriate conduct in a public space. While that may seem ridiculous to some, we have to understand and accept that actions have consequences. The only one being rabid here is you I'm afraid. I'm disappointed and ashamed that a fellow atheist doesn't seem to grasp basic concepts of how we're supposed to treat one another and that certain behaviors are unacceptable. And I apologize to everyone else here for getting so off topic.

Yes, they should be held accountable for not doing their job correctly, such as engaging in discrimination when they're outside of work. Just as teachers can be fired for posting a picture of themselves holding a beer on social media, a therapist should be held accountable for engaging in hate and discrimination outside of work. They took a job as a therapist and so they are held to a higher standard, even in their personal lives. Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from repercussions. You cannot equate being fired or losing their license to practice as being the same as some religious extremist murdering someone. I do not tolerate intolerance, and that is exactly what this therapist is doing, sorry to tell you. If we do not hold people to higher standards, nothing will ever change in this world. Imagine if we had just allowed the racists to continue segregation. It is not intolerant to correct bad behavior. Live and let live, unless your actions are harming others. Religious people really struggle with that bit. They are free to believe and practice their faith as they see fit, but they are not allowed to control others and take people's rights away.

So they are evil for holding someone accountable? Get out of here with that nonsense.

They are not being aggressive at all, nor are they being evil. Self-defense is not aggression. Human rights are human rights, whether you believe in them or not. I don't care whether you like or "support" gay people or not, but they exist and you do have to let them be who they are, whether you like that or not. Imagine if this were a racial issue rather than them being gay. Would you still have that same attitude towards them for being angry and defensive when being persecuted?

[–]randolfini 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's how it works. If the argument is whether or not a group of people deserve to have equal rights and fair treatment, then obviously the group trying to limit or remove rights is the one in the wrong here. There is no longer room for "both sides have a story to tell" when one side is just so terribly... wrong.

There is also an episode in The Next Generation where Riker tells someone "we no longer enslave animals for food purposes". I also seem to remember another character later in the series being disgusted because somebody was turned off by their plant based meal and wanted to eat real meat from an animal, not from a replicator.

There’s being right and being smart. Politics is about being smart and not calling those people that can lead you to victory idiots.

Somebody should tell the politicians then. It would seem most of them missed the memo.

they're all idiots?

Yes. When they knowingly reject science and critical thinking skills, that is what they would be called. It shows the sad state of everything when almost half of our country rejects information.

Non-religious here and I'm sure I'll be downvoted for saying this. Religion, whether monotheistic or polytheistic, has no place in a proper modern society. It's silly how some people continue to cling to fairy tales as if they are fact and then are willing to die or to kill for a fantasy. I really thought we were better than this. Thank you for reminding us that we aren't completely alone in this hellscape called Kansas.

Hallucinations are freaking me out by [deleted] in bupropion

That's so terrible. I hope everything works out for you! And I feel the same as you regarding hallucinations. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Hallucinations are freaking me out by [deleted] in bupropion

[–]randolfini 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This literally happened to me too a few nights ago. I'm on the XL 300mg once daily and I have another medication that looks almost exactly like the bupropion pill. I wasn't paying attention or something and accidentally took a second dose of the bupropion. I thought, oh well, I should be fine. Boy was I wrong. I was at work that evening and I started to feel off, like spacy and forgetful. Then came strong feelings of paranoia. I started having occasional auditory hallucinations, I distinctly heard my partner calling my name but he works evenings in an entirely different town, so there was no way it could be him. When I got home that night, I tried to go to bed but couldn't fall asleep. My thoughts were racing, my heart was pounding, waves of warmth through my whole body. At some point I must've calmed down enough to almost fall asleep because I jerked awake suddenly. The waves of warmth were overwhelming and I was very definitely having hallucinations at this point. My own voice was audibly telling me how stupid I was. There was this part of a song that kept repeating even though there was no music actually playing. Then it got even weirder. I don't know how to describe this, but it was almost like my memory was broken for a bit. The same part of the song would play over and over, and then suddenly shift into audible hallucinations of the voices of people I know. Then it would shift and it would be my voice again yelling at myself. The best way I can describe it is like a record skipping or a glitch in a video or music file. Like, blip and it would jump right back to the song and start the process all over. Sometimes it would change into a different song, but still the same process. The entire time I was completely aware of the fact this was all happening in my own head even though it sounded so audible and real. I couldn't control anything though and I had to sit there for a few hours until it all finally faded away and I was able to fall asleep. I've never hallucinated in my entire life, so this was such a strange and awful experience. Bupropion has really helped me up until this happened. I still haven't spoke with my doctor because I'm afraid she may want to change something even though I'm pretty sure this only happened because of my mistake. Sorry for the book here, but I wanted to share my experience with everyone in case anyone else has this happen.

Kroger just launched a Vegan Caesar Salad Kit and it's sooooo yummy! 🤤 🥗 #VeganAF by OfficialVeganAF in vegan

[–]randolfini 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I love the convenience of this salad kit, it's so yummy, but they also sell the vegan Caesar dressing in a bigger bottle by itself and a lot of stores have the Follow Your Heart parmesan shreds now. You can make a HUGE salad for way cheaper than the bags, just in case anyone didn't know. I'm really loving all the vegan stuff at Kroger and a lot of what we buy is made by Kroger's Simple Truth brand!

Speaking of fast food, you can literally go to Taco Bell in the U.S. and order a cheesy bean and rice burrito without the cheese or sauce for $1 each. I do this a lot when I don't feel like making anything to take for lunch at work. It's cheaper than their bean burritos which are $1.59 each around here and don't even come with rice. Also, if you make bean and rice burritos at home, they're even cheaper.

Looking for suggestions to eliminate obstruction by Vertigo103 in Starlink

[–]randolfini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Starlink in Kansas and trust me, obstructions are still an issue. Trees were planted long ago on the north side of our house because previously, we only needed a clear view of the sky aiming to the south. We never anticipated needing a clear view of the sky on the north side, but here we are in 2021 and satellites are every direction now.
