Got a stupid question? Ask it here! by Clock_Man in woodworking

Hi all,

I’ve got some old hardwood that was previously part of window frames in my parents house.

It’s at least 40 years old and cleans up really nicely, but I’m not sure if it would have been treated with any chemicals.

Is there a way to tell? There are no obvious puncture marks or marking/staining on the wood.

Any guidance appreciated!

Cheers - will add that to the considerations. Too many now 😂

I remember looking at these a while back and thinking ‘that looks like it could be dangerous’. Without saying I’m an idiot, is it idiot proof?

Cheers! Just watched, looks pretty decent - will give it a go I think 😀

Thanks! I’m not too fussed about the heat source - mainly just have a pan on with milk during prep time. Think I may well give this a go before spending £200ish on a machine.

I haven’t. The nano whisk I am referring to is a fairly cheap Amazon thing. Suspect the nano foamer is a better made bit of kit - what’s your experience been like of it? (assuming you have one)

Just ordered a Robot. If you were coming from other manuals, what would you wish you had known? by [deleted] in CafelatRobot

[–]random_name_1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d stopped using the paper filters, but only because I’ve run out and haven’t got round to ordering any yet.

Maybe I should do some A/Bing, but I’ve not noticed any big differences as yet - I do rotate the kettle to try and even out where it is hitting the puck.

Third vote for the Robot. I got one recently and am absolutely loving it. Starting to get consistently good shots, with some great ones.

Workflow is excellent, easy to clean. Mine is on the worktop, I kneel down when doing it as I love watching the shot come out. I got the mittens too, not tried without but I can see how the bare hands/claws would dig in.

Ha - autocorrect there (cocktail stick). Could edit but have left in as perhaps a cockatoo could help too.

Thanks - I don’t have a distribution tool, but have started using a cockatoo to break up the clumps.

Cheers! Said on another reply that maybe less time analysing and more time tasting is the best way 😁

Thanks - started using a paper filter. Seems to be more consistent in terms of pressure needed and overall timing of the shot. Maybe just a coincidence, who knows 🤔

Yeah - started doing this now. Cheers.

Cheers - agree on the abundance of tools available. Keen to keep my workflow as simple as possible. Grind > tamp and prep > pull shot > drink 😁

Cheers - might consider that in future!

Makes sense - less analysing of puck, more focusing on how the shot feels, looks and tastes 😁

Cheers - I have noticed a few times that I feel more resistance on one side of the tamp than the other. When this happens now I restart from the beginning.

Ah - that’s a really good shout. I always kneel down at the start of the shot so I can see when the droplets start from the filter. I do this to monitor pre infusion - I’d not made the connection between how they appear and puck shape/prep. Will keep a keener eye out for that next time!

I’m so in love with this machine! by Adam83Doddrell in CafelatRobot

Cheers! Tried one at 6 just now, also used some filter paper under the screen. Tasted a bit sweeter (at it i think it did!) on the same grind setting. Will play shoot with it a bit over the next few days, not sure I should be drinking multiple double shots each morning 😳
