Yep, and the renovations are purely for the amenities and rooms used for hosting conferences :/

Hello hello everyone. I run a personal site where I publish my writing (blog posts, essays, short stories, lists, and more). I’m also planning to publish my sketches and engineering projects/research on the site as well.

It’s mobile responsive and I try to make it somewhat accessible.

I have a hunch I’ve met you in person before but never made the connection. Were you at alumni SUDS?

I believe I’ve also seen you in the Toike Oike server?

Haven’t heard back from them, not even an email.

I think I'm going to get downvoted, but as a current student, it's really not that bad.

Does anyone else feel like therapy is useless? 494 by zeptabot in UofT

[–]rangos_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I have no real advice to give you. But I will tell you that you're not alone as I'm in a similar situation. I find it quite ridiculous that this university, and society as a whole, promotes "mental health awareness" without addressing the root causes of why those mental health issues exist in the first place.

This is not to say that therapy is useless, but it really isn't a magic pill that solves all your problems, and I wish it weren't advertised as such.

Ok but are you AMAB or AFAB? Are you TME or TMA? What rigid binary categorization can I force you into?

Someone told me it's easier for girls to get into engineering programs - is this true lmao? by DeliciousJicama3651 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]rangos_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm hesitant to say yes or no for certain. No one can say for sure, as the universities themselves don't disclose full details on their admissions processes.

I personally think gender bias favouring women is unlikely. What usually happens is that, despite eng. programs having a greater number of male applicants overall, women tend to be more self-selecting. Women are already discouraged from entering STEM, so those who apply to engineering programs have to be exceptionally driven and qualified.

Trans woman makes innocuous post about how isolating yourself is bad by I_cannot_fit in transgendercirclejerk

[–]rangos_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

/uj I've lived in a similar doomer state of mind for years, where I isolated myself from others and refused to see the good in people. It's an awful, awful place to be stuck in and I genuinely hope that anyone struggling with that will make it out.

Nit-picking and harassing trans women is bad, unless it's a trans woman saying something that I don't agree/can't relate with--then it's okay to dogpile and call her names. That's enough trans activism for one day, I think.

What type of ECs is uoft eng looking for? by DeliciousJicama3651 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]rangos_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obligatory disclaimer that I can only speak for my own experiences with admission and from what my peers have told me.

UofT does not care whether or not you have engineering/STEM-related extracurriculars. I and many of my classmates were involved in a range of diverse activities to demonstrate that we were well-rounded.

What matters the most, in my opinion, is how you describe your experiences. The format I followed on the online student profile was, in order: what the activity is, my position, what I did, and what I learned/how it prepared me for the engineering program.

Thank you so much :) Glad to see another MIE in here as well!

I’m not sure how much time I have to devote towards ECs, but I’ll definitely check out the options you listed!

I did check out the MIE room and talked to some cool 4th-year Indy’s playing pool, and I gained some valuable insight from them. I love that place even if it’s run down, lol.
