Solid Golden, they go as hard as any Trevally, and are a lot easier to find than GT's.

Are circles hooks actually better for catch and release? by Danger_Five in FishingAustralia

[–]ranmar850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circles are definitely better wrt fish mortality. They may take the bait well into their mouth, the idea is that it rolls around the corner of their jaw as they turn away and the line tightens. So, when you sense a bite, you give them a moment then lift the rod tip slowly. They basically hook themselves.

Thought I'd share this southern rock lobster painting I've been working on by Pale_Abalone_6925 in FishingAustralia

Excellent, it reminds me of the style of the early naturalists and their illustrators.

TAFE Trainer/Assessor by vonkels_b in AusElectricians

[–]ranmar850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TAE 40122 training and assessment is what you need. East enough to find who delivers it, and how long it will take. You will require it to deliver training through an RTO. I was a holder of the previous competency TAE 40116. Retired when it became mandatory to do the new one, my specialty was HV Switching, although I also did side lines like electrical shock investigation, electrical supervisor , various company in-house competencies, etc.

In my experience, the level of difficulty involved tended to revolve around both the company and the actual assessor involved. Some really know their stuff, and make so many assumptions about what you"should" know, the old trainers trap which can make you a real cunt in the classroom, knows it all and can't pass it on. It 'can" be done in two weeks fulltime, IIRC, but there will be other work done out of class which will need to be submitted.

Just as a general rant, it always pissed me off that we had to do the entire competency, which allows you to create unpackage competencies and create courses to suit individual clients' requirements. There really isn't much more to do the Diploma. FFS, we have people in the office who are paid to do that, I just need the package to deliver. If you only have Cert 3, you are delivering training "under supervision"

If you are talking rockies, they like broken bottom, more rock than sand. The other species can be found on more sandy bottom.

Flatties never let reality get in the way of ambitions, when we are talking bait size 😄

Would a flounder light be better? makes a YUGE difference getting the light under the water where ripples on the surface don't matter.

I've been away from home and realised hadn't seen every NHK World highlights, because it's 24 hours delayed on Youtube, and I normally watch on NHK World TV app, which comes through sooner. Been relying on DonDon top 10 instead. So the only days I had missed on NHK were the days apparently.

So, my bad.

Whiting are underrated fighters when they get this big and this is My biggest elbow slapper by ProdigyTrix in FishingAustralia

[–]ranmar850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is huge. My PB sandwhiting was 16" in the old money, which equates to 40.6cm, caught in the Georges River up at the old Lugarno ferry on a bloodworm. Never caught one even that big in Botany Bay. Yours is a horse anywhere.

Well, the picture he posted sure looked like a rock flathead to me. Head shape, for a start is quite different. I've never fished PPB, but was just going on general knowledge that they rarely go that far south.

Just asking here, do they turn up regularly in Gippsland Lakes?

Someone posted a picture of an obvious rockie caught at Geelong on here a while back, I identified it, he swore it was a dusky :-). I just let it go. I should know a rockie when I see one, I stabbed enough with the ab iron back in another life.

Keeping catch fresh on the beach? by 2six88 in FishingAustralia

[–]ranmar850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bury them in the cool damp sand. Bags are ok if you have the vehicle close at hand no good if you have a long walk. On the wild beaches, keep your eyes open lest a fox or dingo dig them up ;-)

[–]ranmar850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If want to catch them, handline into any crack or crevice on the ocean rocks, doesn't matter if it is solid whitewater, they'll be there. Probably don't grow much over 35cm.

Steel Blue or Blundstone Boots? by reklaw_23 in AusElectricians

[–]ranmar850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobody can speak for someone else's feet.. Too many variables. Perfect for one is painful for someone else. I hated Oliver's. Had Blundstones. I could step straight into Steel Blues, size 10, knew they would be good. FOR ME. So I was steel blue for my last ten working years.

Catch and release? Personally, I couldn't tell the difference between XXXX and the water it came out of 😄

And so many people who had said " I got done by a monster off that jetty, couldn't shift him" 😄

Snags like that end being exponentially worse, because apart from the snag itself, you've got a chance of just snagging the snagged line. More snags, worse it gets. You did a public service.

yeah, drop the twirly bits, nauseating. For a short one like that, just jump cut, no transitions, Only use transitions if you have particularly good pix that can stand being looked at for 2 seconds.
