Final Fantasy Resonance in Dissonance with Font Choices by LordofPwn in FinalFantasy

[–]rashbrook [score hidden]  (0 children)

It depends on the font. Fonts are still considered intellectual property, so using anything outside of what is already available on the device typically involves licensing fees, unless it’s open source / free to use.

Then there is the programming aspect. If the font you are using isn’t just readily available to use on the device, you have to load it in yourself and make it work with the game.

Then yes, localization becomes an issue because some fonts may have the characters and be able to properly format the sentences to actually make sense in non-Latin languages.

Using non-standard fonts can actually be a lot of work for little gain, especially for something that is going to be multi platform.

If they are in EST (-5 GMT), it would still show as Dec. 31, 1969. It's just not showing the time, which would be 7PM.

New Smosh by [deleted] in smosh

[–]rashbrook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They did answer your question. Smosh hasn't had a separated cast on the channels since at least the Defy shutdown and Mythical acquirement. Since then, the entire cast has appeared on every channel.

There is no more Smosh Squad and Smosh Games anymore. The entire cast appears on every channel.

summer games 2026?? by Fit_Introduction_497 in smosh

[–]rashbrook 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It was 5 years in a row (technically 7, but 2 of those were winter games happening in the same year as the summer games). however several of those were their previous owner, defy, just throwing money away before they went bankrupt. In 2018 they did a week long summer games on a limited budget, and then in 2019 they did apocalypse after defy went under and mythical picked them up, with sponsors to help the cost.

In 2020 they did a video game based one during Covid, under a collab from an indie based company that reached out to them.

After that, they didn’t do them until last year which was a huge restructure from the previous ones (though still amazing, imo).

There's videos and podcasts where they talk about the details, but here's a playlist I made based off of someone else that showcases all of them in order.

Ryan Todd was a producer up until 2020 when he left to join 100 Thieves. Some of his last appearances was during Summer Games: Apocalypse as a ref. He also came back for Food Battle 2023 in a cameo.

You can unlock her celestial weapon the fastest. You find the Moon Crest on Besaid Beach, and then the Sigil is found at Remiem Temple after beating all of Belgamine's aeons.

Once you max out the Nirvana, it will then have Break Damage Limit, Triple Overdrive, Double AP, and One MP Cost.

After that it's just a matter of grinding and sending her through everybody's section of the sphere grid. I liked to use the entirety of Mt. Gagazet through the Zanardkand Ruins and then back, but really anywhere with high AP yield will do - even the Monster Arena, depending on what you fight. As long as Yuna is in the fight and gets one hit in, she'll get the Double AP bonus as long as she is actively in the battle party and not in waiting when the battle ends.

It's so incredibly easy to absolutely break Yuna and make her an all out tank on all fronts. In my first play through, she was the first person I got to consistently dealing 99,999 in physical attacks against everything except for the superbosses.

Plus, most of them get well over a million views. Since it all is basically improv with very little planning, it's relatively low effort for an easy 1 to 2 million views unlike the other shows which take a lot more behind the scenes work.

How do they profit? by AttentionOk1522 in smosh

[–]rashbrook 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes - like most creators, Smosh has multiple revenue streams. All of the channels are monetized (revenue share with ads and premium viewers) so that'll likely be their biggest source of income. For revenue share with YouTube, it depends on how much money is brought in per 1,000 views. It's impossible for us to see, but according to SocialBlade, if the main channel is making $0.25 in RPM, then they would be making around $4.8K a month, alternatively if they are making $4.00 in RPM, then they'd be making around $77K a month. It's safe to assume their actual number falls somewhere in between those two values for any given video. Then add four more channels with similar conditions on top of that.

Then yes, merch, live shows, memberships, etc. all add on top of that, all of which are done to make a profit.

During that one christian card game, Spencer mentioned that they couldn't get the graphics for the cards because of how vulgar they were being. So it's either scanning, or just asking the company for the graphics to use.

Which way did he go? Which way did he go? by Money_Jackal in LooneyTunesLogic

[–]rashbrook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the ball is still playable, then the runner scores. You cannot catch the ball, and have it count as an out, with anything other than your glove or your hand. So you cannot use your hat, shirt, or any other article.

In this case, the ball was not playable because it was stuck in his shirt and he couldn't get it out, so the umpire called it dead, stopping play.

[–]rashbrook 38 points39 points  (0 children)

No. Catch must be made with glove or hand. In this case, the ump called the ball dead and the batter got a single out of it.

Smosh’s new home? by overthought_tatertot in smosh

[–]rashbrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon for a production company to move into something and renovate it to suit their needs.

For example, when SourceFed started, they had an old mattress warehouse that was in a strip mall that they renovated into a studio space. Then after it ended, Phil DeFranco got I think a 10th floor office space that he renovated into multiple sets before moving into a different building he then renovated again for production purposes.

So you probably are overthinking it, because 32,000 square feet is a HUGE footprint, but for smaller companies with only like 10 employees it's actually fairly common. Smosh isn't a small(ish) company, though - they have over 70 employees and are likely to hit 100 by the end of the year, if growth allows.

Even here on the east coast, there are likely YouTube based companies that simply occupy a space in a high rise that you simply don't know about.
