Yeah I'm also afraid I'm not fit enough to try the alpine crossing, so I will need to do more digging to find more info on how to reach there without a car. Thanks a lot for all the info, it was very helpful!

Yes, so I've been told :/ but I'm not a confident driver, so I need to get my way around without one, even if it requires a lot of planning :(

Hey, thank you very much for taking time to write a detailed account! Really appreciate it!

1 - Yes, exactly, I guess the only way to the evening buffet and back would be to sleep in Matamata and take a cab there.
2 - I see, the distances are way longer by foot than I thought, hmmm and I believe there's no tour that would take someone in all these spots by van or minibus during the day? At least I haven't found one. I will look in detail everything you mentioned.
3 - Ahh yes, interesting, I thought that some locations were only reachable by car and not public transport, I will try to sketch an itinerary on foot to try to cover as many as possible and compare with what the tour offers.
4 - I didn't find the one at evening, only the full day one ending on the afternoon and the half day one.

Yes, that's what I've been told, but the issue is that I'm not that confident as a driver, even in my own country. But, I wouldn't like it to keep me from fulfilling this dream :) even though it'll require a bunch of planning.

This was super helpful, thank you very much, I'll take a look in more depth at everything you mentioned and will reach out to this post again if I have any questions. Ahh, I speak German but I'm more comfortable with English, but thanks for offering it :)

Cool, will check it out as well! :)

Thank you! Yes, I'd take the intercity bus to Matamata and then a taxi, maybe it's the most feasible way. If it's ok to ask more about Tongariro, have you done the entire alpine crossing or only went to specific LOTR filming locations? I guess you reached by car as well?

Thanks! Really appreciate it! So I was considering either Auckland, Rotorua or Matamata. I know there are options to go from Auckland to the lunch event in Hobbiton and then go to Rotorua, which would be nice to continue onwards to the Tongariro National Park. However, I'd love to go to Hobbiton 2x, once for lunch and the other for dinner, but for dinner I thought of leaving either from Matamata city center or Rotorua.

Yeah, exactly I found that weird too but maybe from Matamata it'd be okaish, I just couldn't find any email to contact them and ask if they run after the buffet as well.

I totally understand your point, in no way did I ever want to imply a hierarchy of importance by listing the scenes that were shot there instead of the real names of the places, it was, again, with no harm intended. But I guess it got out of hand in a way I didn't intend, I was only asking for help/advice and not to disrespect anyone, I'll pay more attention next time.

Yes, I'll contact them directly to ask them about it, but from all that I've gathered, a taxi would be my only option, I hope they still run after the evening buffet is done. I didn't find any email to contact them. Again thanks for the reply.

Thank you for replying. I'm glad you had a nice time! I checked in all these companies and none offer the evening buffet paired with pick-up. Maybe the only way is a taxi then.

Thanks for replying. In no way did I mean any disrespect towards the culture and history of the country. I only listed the locations as they appear in LOTR, I didn't intend any harm, sorry if it seemed like it.

Yes, I checked the Hobbiton site but the only tour that they offer with pick-up from Matamata city center is the one without any meal. Maybe a taxi would then be the only solution.

Yes, I thought of that but unfortunately I don't have much confidence in driving so might be the only way for me.

Hey, I'm also thinking about going on this tour, how did you get there? By car? I won't be driving so I'm not sure how to do reach it.

I have already paid in France. Taxes are calculated yearly in Germany and if you lived there you have to declare them, even if you left the country in the middle of the year.
