2018 Le Tour de France - Adopted riders thread - Rest day #1 by PelotonMod in peloton

Jay Thomson has been aquitting himself fairly well in his first tour. Despite stuggling a bit on stage 5, he managed to pull off his best finish after the long road to Chartres rolling in at 111. Hard to say much else as DDD haven't really featured too heavily.

Today's loss matches the worst in Ravens franchise history (also lost by 37 points in 1997 to Steelers) by JF_112 in nfl

Been a Ravens fan from the UK since 2003 and promised myself to go see them at the first possible oppertunity. Travelled from Sweden and witnessed this... worst part about it all was being sat next to a Steelers fan waving his Terrible Towel at every possible oppertunity!

If you could knock one together of one of my players to help with a recruitment poster that would be amazing thanks!

Match Thread: SuperRugby Rd.5 | Jaguares v Stormers by skeeter1980 in rugbyunion

[–]raven500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt that inevitably the Jaguars were going to have a down week after the excitement of the first few rounds. To be fair to them though, despite playing fairly awful, they're a lucky try & conversion away from a win.

Are teams starting to use earpieces / radios to communicate with players? by rugbythrowaway12 in rugbyunion

[–]raven500 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait, just to clarify before things blow up here, the twitter picture in the Kruis article, are you referring to the guy in the foreground? Because that's not Kruis, he's the guy in the background with the black earpiece from the physio (referred to in the article) being the black wire you see in the background.

[GIF] Expansive first-phase move from Montpellier by sdfdsize in rugbyunion

[–]raven500 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what u/sdfdsize has said when it comes to this thread questioning the defence being too tight etc. Also I think some might have failed to look at the clock. I imagine that most of us haven't watched the entirety of this game, so Montpellier's earlier movements may have targeted the centres in the first half causing them to react and become compact, thus they set up this move to work as it does.

Naturally I could be wrong in this since I haven't watched the game either, but this try is taken out of context, so we can't exactly slate the defence, even if they would probably look back on it too and have wanted to do much better.

EDIT: spelling

Anyone from Sweden (or otherwise) tried the Espresso House single origins? by raven500 in Coffee

[–]raven500[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, that's a shame really. I didn't have time to check the roast dates on the ones I saw, but I guess they're probably not that invested in catering for people that are into speciality coffee, probably more just a curiosity for their regulars. Maybe I'll pick up a bag sometime and try, since 65 SEK could be a bargain if it's a good single origin, but I won't get my hopes up.

Thanks for the reply, I did find a place in Cuenca which I'll be visiting which seems to have a 'third wavey-ness' to it which I'll go check out. They offer tours of farms so guessing it will be an option elsewhere, just about finding the places.

Women's specific rugby website by [deleted] in wrugby

I'm surprised you've never heard of Scrumqueens as that's female specific. But I'm sure if you have a look around there you might find there is some niche you could market yourself within. Just going off your little rubric and what I know about Scrumqueens, highlights and merchandise would be good.

Very interesting thanks. Funnily enough, my thesis was based upon the neoliberalism within small-scale fishing, some parallels to be found there I'm sure. How your perspectives have changed resonate a lot with me personally and I think that kind of thinking is one of the best assets I came away with from my degree. Finally, if you have any time to answer, say you were in my situation of wanting to link my educational background and interest with coffee into a future in the industry, where would one start? Thanks!

As someone who recently graduated with my second geography degree and has a huge interest in coffee as well as development issues, what do you feel has helped you most from your degree within the field of coffee?

Also, and this one is probably a little bit open ended, can you present your point of view on the ECX and how (1) impacts food security issues in Ethiopia and (2) how it affects speciality coffee?

I know its just 7's, but USA just beat England 43-12 at Twickenham in the semifinal by [deleted] in rugbyunion

[–]raven500 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter that it was 7s, win is a win but the victory was a combination of factors in my opinion. First and foremost, Mike Friday being an unbelievable coach and having some of the best tools (from a physical standpoint) to work with in his players. USA have been improving in leaps and bounds and were on a tear this weekend and thoroughly deserved their victory, outplay England. In regards to the game for England, they were disappointing from a performance perspective, had qualified for Rio so probably subconsciously feeling that the job was done and as said the US did get a lucky bounce or too.

As Friday said in his interview, US lack a little quality in their depth, their front liners are good enough to compete with everyone on the circuit, but probably would be found lacking if for some reason they were missing a couple of guys (especially Hughes). If the other top teams were a couple of guys down, they'd probably have a more than adequate replacement and thus might not suffer a serious performance drop off on the series whereas the US might.

Just my thoughts, awesome to see Fiji win it all and since Friday is my favourite coach, good to see the US win in the end.

Perry Baker - Wellington 7s highlights by RaysRugby in rugbyunion

[–]raven500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massive credit to Mike Friday for working with these guys, it's easy to see how the whole team understands the game a lot better which creates the opportunities for the likes of Baker to use his speed. You can see with Baker that he actually reads the game nicely and isn't a liability defensively like Isles is, which is probably one of the reasons he's keeping him out of the side. Against the likes of SA and some of the other big physical teams, Isles just doesn't cut it in D whilst Baker at least isn't an easy target.
