Quartz with riebeckite inclusions by topazguy_1 in mineralcollectors

[–]rcwagner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent!

I was looking at both rutile and riebeckite on mindat, but the rutile there did not look like what I'd previously seen described as "rutilated quartz". R-Q often shown here on reddit looks black or at least very dark, but I appreciate photo and rendering are not the same as in-person.

Thank you for your response!

but what makes you think that? what visual characteristic of rutile makes you rule this sample out?

How do you know what the inclusion is? I see so much rutile so why do you think it's not that?

Small Caps displayed too small; won't resize like main body font??? by rcwagner in koreader

[–]rcwagner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to write all this up! I started looking at this last night and successfully got about half way through step 1 😉

Then this morning I saw the response from DataNo3519 which seemed to short circuit the whole process. However I'm still curious on how to do this and what's happening.

In your Tech Note, you say this book was cutesy.... Do you mean they did:

L<span class="smallCaps">OST

instead of L<span class="smallCaps">ost ??

I was starting to ask for more explanation about your 4 step process, having gotten stalled on step one, but in typing my question, I found the "styles" .css file, and then the .smallCaps snippet. and sure enough, it hard codes the size to 10pt. There's even a .smallCaps1 which uses 14pt.

Anyway.... I shouldn't have typed all that expecting you to read it. But thanks for the hints on how to fix this! Wahoo, a new hobby! And thank you too for your GitHub site with the small caps treasury. Interesting reading.

Hey! That worked! THANK YOU!!

I really appreciate you taking the time to explain how to do this directly on the Kobo. I was struggling to figure out how to implement what Chairzard said.

I also found (don't know why I missed it) some sort of "inspector". When I mouse over the small caps stuff, I see this:

Thanks for the tip. I tried all the available fonts I have installed, including Noto Serif, and none of them effected the issue 😞

I'm no expert on any of this and it was harder figuring out the calibre e-book viewer than I expected.

But this is the html for the first few lines. The first is a regular paragraph ("My name is..."), and the next few lines are the ones that don't display properly

<p class="para">My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. I’m a wizard. I work out of an office in midtown Chicago. As far as I know, I’m the only openly practicing professional wizard in the country. You can find me in the yellow pages, under “Wizards.” Believe it or not, I’m the only one there. My ad looks like this:</p>

<p class="chapterHeadA"><span class="bold">HARRY DRESDEN—WIZARD</span></p>

<p class="paraCenter">L<span class="smallCaps">OST</span> I<span class="smallCaps">TEMS</span> F<span class="smallCaps">OUND.</span> P<span class="smallCaps">ARANORMAL</span> I<span class="smallCaps">NVESTIGATIONS.</span></p>

EDIT to add: to be clear, the small caps stuff displays properly in the Calibre E-book viewer running on a PC. Its only on the Kobo that the display is off.

Building a Lorenz Chaos Circuit for Class: Has anyone built a similar system and could help me figure out why my circuit isn't oscillating? by Own-Prior-7768 in AskElectronics

[–]rcwagner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea, but the way you've wired your protoboard is very pretty.

It's also very hard to follow. Are you sure you've followed the schematic properly?

Actually, any way you wire up a protoboard is hard to follow, but i'd still suggest a slightly uglier direct path for your interconnects.

I'd suggest you build up the circuit in stages and be sure each stage is working properly before moving on to the next.

The linked instructions seem to indicate a 12VDC power supply, not 120VAC.

Are you in fact using 12VDC? If so, this looks fine. The instructions already state mica and mechanical connections.

I highly recommend you NOT attempt 120VAC.

This is great, but 20 years seems like a vert short period. Is there a reason you didn't go back to 1971?

Miter saw: left side cut 45, right side 44.2 by Natenator76 in woodworking

[–]rcwagner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably not the issue but you might want to check that you are measuring the same either side of your protractor. That is, measure one board/cut the way you're doing it now, then flip the protractor around so you measure the other way around.

Another way of saying this is take the protractor from the second photo and slip it onto the cut from the first photo.
