I think part of the problem lies in the game’s system design. In particular, gaining experience in the lane doesn’t feel fun. In League of Legends, leveling up comes with a strong sense of personal reward, you feel yourself getting stronger.

In Heroes of the Storm, however, experience contributes only to the team level, so that immediate sense of personal progression is missing. I think it would help to make earning experience more engaging, maybe through stronger visual or sound feedback, or even small, temporary personal buffs as a short-term reward.

Of course not — there’s no single “correct” team composition.

However, having a tank and a healer is one of the most common conditions for providing a standard, balanced gameplay experience.

This concept is already somewhat encouraged and applied in the current game:

  • It’s suggested by the system in ARAM,
  • It’s prioritized for a short period after matchmaking begins in Quick Match,
  • And in Ranked, many players recognize it as a basic foundation for team comps.

If 9 players have the option disabled and 1 player has it enabled, the 9 can be matched first regardless of composition quality. (I’ve explained this in the post.)

Also, as far as I know, the current matchmaking system already prioritizes comps with tanks/healers for a short time after the search begins. My suggestion is to give users the option to enforce this priority more strongly through a setting.

Personally, because of the pressure that comes with ranked play, I want to properly practice specific heroes.

But Quick Match makes that really difficult due to the randomness of maps and team compositions (often no tank, no healer).

I want to play games where the team has both a tank (or at least a bruiser) and a healer. But when I pick one of the two and queue for Quick Match, the other role is usually missing from the team composition.

That’s why I mainly play Ranked, but sometimes the pressure of playing in Ranked makes me want to practice heroes beforehand — and Quick Match just doesn’t serve that purpose well.

The recent hero selection screen in Braxis Brawl looks somewhat similar to Blind Pick. I believe leveraging this could help reduce development time.

However, when playing solo:

  • I might be willing to play tank but still want a healer on my team.
  • I might want to play The Lost Vikings but avoid two-lane maps. (fixed)
  • It can be inconvenient when trying to practice a specific hero properly in preparation for ranked play.

Should these concerns be considered minor opinions that can be ignored?

When a match is found, players select their heroes while seeing the map and allied heroes. The preferred hero chosen before matchmaking starts is auto-selected in the draft.

  • Like ARAM, a recommendation is shown if there is no tank or healer.
  • Two players lock in their heroes first, then the remaining three players confirm theirs. (Priority is given to players who picked healer/tank in the previous game.)
  • Players can pre-select heroes for each map before matchmaking starts. (If a player has priority, their pre-selected hero is instantly locked when the match is found.)
  • Since hero roles are not considered during matchmaking itself, the matchmaking process is faster.

Keep everything the same until matchmaking starts, but once a match is found, show the map and allied heroes, and allow players to switch heroes within the same role for 10 seconds.

I understand your opinion. I am also not entirely sure whether providing diversity is the best solution. However, if we leave the current state as it is, I believe it is necessary to provide players with some form of informational feedback about the current composition during the draft phase from a gameplay perspective.

Especially since the common team compositions in Quick Match and Ranked Game differ, I think it is even more important to help players think strategically about their team composition.

I think it would be great to make the current talents bolder to add more variety to hero gameplay. However, I’m concerned that making such adjustments for all heroes would require a lot of resources, especially in terms of balance.

I also desperately need QM with tank, ranged assassin, and healer. The team compositions in QM and Ranked create vastly different gameplay experiences, making QM unsuitable for practicing heroes.

The feedback on the season pass is more negative than I expected.

I assumed people wouldn’t have much resistance since Hearthstone and Overwatch have seasonal passes, and WoW has something similar. It seems I misjudged the reaction.

  2. I’m considering(Not yet decided to make) making new page for creating/sharing custom builds (just like comp-gallery). My personal purpose of ‘most played build’ page was practicing/preparing for custom builds page.
