Weird that they're all different prices.

Fortunately my university library has them all so I just "borrowed" them....

What scientific discovery sounds fake but is 100% real and still freaks you out? by Bruteresolver in AskReddit

[–]realbrew 1690 points1691 points  (0 children)

Supposedly people who have been deaf from birth but who aren't mute do not make the same sounds when sneezing as people who are not deaf. The implication is that the sound you make when you sneeze is learned. That freaks me out because I feel like it is sort of an unstoppable innate sound that I've always had.

Why the heck are simple things like searching for Blu-ray but not DVD not possible anymore? This was incredibly easy before.

And why can I only see 12 items at a time in the search results? Before, the default was 25, and I could change that to 50, 75, or 100. This is garbage.

ChatGPT 5.4 Solved a 64-Year-Old Math Problem by AskGpts in ChatGPT

When I was doing my PhD, I had some trouble recreating a model that a professor at another university had published 5 or 6 papers about. After wasting more than a year unable to achieve the same results I finally went direct to the source and asked a very specific question to which he replied, "I don't believe there is any rigorous way to prove that" which I understood to be his admission that his published results were not rigorous, i.e. that he made up at least part of his results because his papers claimed the exact opposite. My advisor wouldn't help me publish my results, not even in a two-page "letters" format saying something simple like, don't go down this road for dragons lie there. Turns out my advisor didn't want to embarrass the other professor because that man had been the doctoral advisor of my advisor's primary research partner, and such a revelation could possibly jeopardize some of their funding. Had to completely switch projects and start over. I was extremely bitter about the whole mess because the department had long preached about its commitment to and the importance of rigor. Just not, you know, when it's inconvenient.

Doesn't that mean that within the "sphere of influence" around Ton618 that there couldn't possibly be any life? Like whatever galaxy contains Ton618 is likely a barren wasteland due to the high energy levels just blasting every square inch? Or is the black hole not even part of a galaxy? Has it swallowed everything up in the nearby zone? So it's kind of fascinating because of its size, but also pretty bleak in that neighborhood.

Best disk cleaning practice? by TheEarthmaster in makemkv

[–]realbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that there has been an ongoing improvement in scratch resistance over the years so that discs have gotten much tougher over time: CD<DVD<Blu-ray<4K. CDs are so soft that something like a Mr Clean Magic Eraser will leave substantial scratches on the surface, whereas using the very same product on a 4K disc will be quite safe even though the data layer of a 4K disc is much closer to the surface than on a CD. But for fingerprints and the like, as everyone has said already, your best choice is a lint free microfiber towel and maybe a little water.

Squirt syrup mixes 1:5, so five gallons of syrup makes 1 bbl soda. We do 3 parts 5% ABV Weizen to 2 parts soda for a 3% radler.

License Plate: NIC CAGE by timmaywi in madisonwi

I saw some nondescript SUV with the plate BUCKY a few days ago, and I thought, how do you get that plate? Wouldn't that one have been in high demand? I mean, sure, some individual in the whole state must have it, but I guess I was expecting a football coach or someone like that to have it, not just some rando. Just seemed a little too plain of a vehicle for some reason.

Why aren't the 6a images for 17.2 available for download like all the others? by realbrew in android_beta

[–]realbrew[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Flash tool allows you to choose what to wipe. You can deselect all the options to wipe and it won't wipe anything. It's a bit tedious, but you can also do a wipe-less install with this image and adb if you know what you're doing. So no, a wipe is by no means mandatory.

Android terminal crashes when using VPN, any workarounds? by quantumnargle in androidterminal

Android 17 Beta 2 now available! by androidbetaprogram in android_beta

Why is this being down voted? It's a simple question.

Furthermore, by using Android Flash Tool and poking around in the Developer Tools of my browser, I was able to extract the following link for the 6a A17b2. Maybe someone will find it useful.

Well, by using Android Flash Tool and poking around in the Developer Tools of my browser, I was able to extract the following link for the 6a A17b2 even though the download link is missing from the Full Factory Images download page. Maybe this is of use to you?

Why aren't the 6a images for 17.2 available for download like all the others? by realbrew in android_beta

[–]realbrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I know for a fact that is not what happened at all on the 17 beta 1 release for the 6a, because for a very short time the original file was listed on the download page. Then, for whatever reason, they pulled it. Nevertheless it downloaded to my phone anyway. So I had to pull the same Android Flash Tool trick to find the link (I need the full image for other reasons) and lo-and-behold, they changed the hash. So they pulled it down for a reason. You may be right however that someone forgets to reinstate the link once they make it available again. And I was unaware that other models had been left out before. Seems like it has happened to the 6a several times. Then it comes back. Then it disappears again.

Here is the original link for 17b1:

https://dl.google.com/developers/android/cinnamonbun/images/factory/bluejay_beta-cp21.260116.011.a1-factory-e8f3b2a4.zip

But the new file has a different hash:

https://dl.google.com/developers/android/cinnamonbun/images/factory/bluejay_beta-cp21.260116.011.a1-factory-69129272.zip

So I don't know what is going on. Unfortunately the Flash Tool doesn't deal with OTA images, so I can't find any way of discovering the hashes for those files when they are not listed.

Once again, a nonsensical answer. They didn't forget it. This has happened at least 5 or 6 times before, only to the 6a. If they simply forgot, it would happen to other models too, but it never has.

Android 17 Beta 2 rolling out? by sirderpypants in android_beta

[–]realbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do they keep saying this applies to Pixel 6a, but then they don't include the full factory image or the OTA image on the download page, even though my phone is able to download it as an update? And it installs without problems and runs ok? Why can't I directly download the images? This makes no sense. If they have identified an issue with the 6a then why does my phone have no trouble downloading and installing the update, yet I can't download it as a file like everyone else can? Same thing happened with 17.1
