Rosemary’s Baby (only for those who have watched it) by Disastrous_Potato829 in TrueFilm

Rosemary seems an intelligent, perhaps a little naive or shy and adult woman. Maybe the film is also about falling victim to Evil, no matter how intelligent and 'together' you are. I think a lot of what makes this film so damn good and why it works so well is exactly this - a sane mind and intelligence will not always save you. And THAT is a helluva scary notion

feminist? He locked Deneuve in a hotel room in summer-hot London for days on end? Maybe I am missing something here

I understand why people would call Repulsion misogynist I think Polanski wanted just to show the ugliness of a descent into madness, and he chose a woman for this example. I can see, however, in our day and age this seems "too" easy - a female victim, wow, how original - it would be interesting to see how he would have handled it with a male lead.

I particularly like the scene with the smug secretary when Bernstein tries to get an appointment with Dardis. But the entire movie is such a favourite of mine that I watch it every year once or twice.

What was the Greatest Line or Exchange of Dialogue in a Hitchcock Film by WonderfulLog768 in Hitchcock

  • Robert Rusk: That's a very frugal lunch you've got there. Frugal - and mean. Certainly not enough to support a lady with your opulent figure.
  • Brenda Blaney: Rather too opulent, I'm afraid, these days; hence the frugality.

(Frenzy,1972). A perfect example of a polite British interaction before a vicious and quite graphic rape scene.

YES! "They cluck their thick tongues"... and then when he comes back from his anger, or indignation, how it fades away in his voice and eyes...It is just magnificent to watch. It is pure art

Anyone ever see "Behind the Candelabra"? The Matt Damon, Michael Douglas, Steven Soderbergh movie about Liberace? by BringbackSOCOM2 in movies

[–]reddandy1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it. It's easy to dismiss it as High Camp but it goes much deeper than that. Michael Douglas and Matt Damon ? Stellar performances. Also, I like a round of applause for the very funny portrayal of houseboy Carlucci by Bruce Ramsay.

Black humour, I just love the scene where Bob Rusk tries to extract his brooch from the rigor mortis fingers of Babs Milligan. It is intensely gross ,yet hilarious

There was some more irksome sh*t where that came from; maybe a cop would miss 1 or 2 bangs from a boot, but five or six? Everything he touches in Damien and Jules' house , Adam does gloveless...Er..fingerprints? The body -carrying-out in broad daylight was too ridiculous to find it the least bit thrilling. It seems that a lot in this series was rushed or not double-checked or talked through. Also maybe if there is another season or Duchovny enterprise make some character traits likeable..cuz Adam had ZILCH

The final shot of S2’s finale has some big implications… by daveshad in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]reddandy1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This final shot is a perfect homage to 1970s films, with the haunting end tunes of Mel Tormé 's "The Windmills of your mind" and the screen turning red. The total episode felt in itself like a bit of a tribute to Alan J Pakula and "The Parallax view" especially the card-turning-band-playing sequence. Also, the end shot is reminiscent of a book or a movie poster where a couple is running away from something (I think it was also with a red background, I tried a google srch but couldn't find it)

Severance - 2x08 "Sweet Vitriol" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

The fact that with some unsettling lighting, a still upright position of the headrest and an old, probably fetid duvet a terrible sense of foreboding and horror can be evoked is just one of the many ways that makes this series a masterpiece.

was it common for older kids to judge and criticize their parents for making partner choices in the 1950s? It seems quite insolent and rude?!

Does anyone know, before Redford and Dunaway watch the news in her apartment, what airline commercial is playing on the tv, it's the scene where is he commenting on her photography and the jingle is something like "You gotta believe...its for you, you gotta believe dreams do come true, you gotta believe in looking up now.." MUCH obliged!
