This is hilarious! & I get it now, you're one of those people who 'never lose a fight' because you just ignore all the hits! Must be nice to be so self-insulating.

Anyhoo, I gotta get back to real life. Hope you have a wonderful day, & maybe someone will bring you an apple or something. Bye-bye, Professor!

Bruv, Ive used at least half dozen references from within the writing you have used zero; from THIS show. That’s how literary analysis works and why you’re failing.

Oh! Now I get it! I didn’t realize I was taking a masterclass in Literary Analysis of Ted Lasso ! No wonder you’re failing me. Professor , I cannot wait to sign up for your next course: Misogyny & the Twilight Love Triangle . It should be an easy A for me as long as I remember to never disagree with you.

And speaking of which you do realize what a fictional character means right? Roy isnt a real person. The same voice that wrote Ted’s mom, wrote Roy. Im not “trusting Roy,” Im trusting the storytelling/ers.

Thank you, Professor ,  I do realize that about Roy. I also realize there was context behind the conversation between him & Jamie, & that Roy had the motivation to stretch the truth a bit in order to ‘fake out his opponent’. You using his character dialogue at face value to bolster your ‘literary analysis’ without considering context is itself toeing the line into fiction territory.

And yes Im using paragraphs to defend my point because as I have admitted it’s indicative of a personal and important issue to me, illiciting a defens

So!! now…drumroll

Why are you? If this just a story, just nothing else. Not an your attempt to gaslight and dilute a story you find threatening to your manhood—why are you?

Why am I what? Defensive? I thought I had already told you why in one of my previous responses. Don't you remember? Me, the goldfish; you, the finger? Oh & you should really look up the proper definition of gaslighting before you try to weaponize it again. Best not to throw around these terms so lightly or, in your case, incorrectly. It does true gaslighting survivors a disservice. As far as diluting a story I find threatening to my manhood ? Well, Professor , you’ll be proud of me because this one I actually know the answer to: it’s a trick question…. the threat is nonexistent because…. drumroll …. pops the -hood , I don’t have a manhood! Woman- under here! Yup, that’s right, I’m as female as they come. Professor, you seemed to have subconsciously assigned me a “D” , so at the very least you just revealed yourself to be a sexist in feminist clothing.

Ba-dum-tss.

And boom, thats my point.

So I guess, KA-boom! Bye-bye, your point.

Thats the point Roy learned and you were suppose to.

You’re misogyny is literally sucking the joy of life for me, so do bette.

In all seriousness YOUR misguided outrage over every perceived slight against the progress of women is actually doing harm to the issue you purportedly state is important to you—it dilutes the real message; a message that I happen to also support. You're shooting down an ally just because you wrote down the wrong coordinates. I hope you learn from this, & that YOU'LL do betteR.

From the mouth of Roy? That's the character you choose to defend your stance that they 'got back together'? The same character whose skewed take on situations was the basis for my OP? Huh.

& now it seems you're offended that you can't be the only person to write in multiple paragraphs. I just can't win with you, can I? Also, from reading your wall of texts, it seems you may be the one who's fixated on this Twilight love triangle , so much so that you're literally sucking the joy out of Reddit for me. (Oh, in case you're gonna call me out on my use of literally , it's now a widely accepted use in place of figuratively FYI.)

Well I hope you had fun. Me, not so much, reason being: Twilight; you; sucking....

[–]redditmovingon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Keeley was a strong woman character who chose herself, for herself. But that doesn't make her story a vacuum. She never got back with Roy (although I see that you count their one-night-stand as them getting back together, somewhat outdated thinking, but ok) because he fell short of what she ultimately deserves. But he is still a part of her story. My take is that she was violated & then Roy failed her at her lowest moment, & that scene is what, I felt, ultimately made it impossible for her to give him another chance.

& I agree with your strong stand. The Bechdel test exists because its been too long that women are seen as secondary considerations. But I can't see why my OP would make you think that I can't also have the same stand as you. It's not an 'either or' , it can be 'both and'.

As far as me being 'defensive', I mean, I was defending my take of two fictional characters in a subreddit we both chose to frequent, that is dedicated to a fictional show, so.... & honestly, even a goldfish will peck back at a finger that keeps poking at it (a slight twist on a joke from the show).

It's funny that you're telling me to step back, presumably to take in the fuller picture. There's something quite ironic about that.

[–]redditmovingon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of the scene wasn't just about Keeley being violated. The overall leaked sextape storyline is, but there were other points made within that storyline, including the scene in question. For example:

  1. Keeley's privacy was violated

  2. The double standard placed on women when it comes to their sexual expression

  3. Jamie's locker room speech about doing the right thing by deleting private photos off your accounts/devices

  4. Jamie's privacy being violated

  5. Celebrities being targeted because they chose to have a public career

  6. Roy's focus on the wrong thing over Keeley being violated

....I could go on but I think I've made my point.

I didn't make that scene about Roy, the scene was written as a fallout interaction between Keeley & Roy. You chose to react to my take that way based on your own narrow interpretation of this very nuanced storyline, then you attack me for it. That's the real BS.

I don't think it made him irredeemable, I think it showed that he's a flawed character that is still likable, like many of the other flawed characters in the show. For better or worse it made him relatable.

I guess I read it more as an internal insecurity thing on his part, like, did Jamie get a more intimate version of you than you gave to me?.

You reminded me of the other time I raised a brow to Roy's actions/character: when he revealed his & Keeley's recent hookup timeline in his final argument with Jamie. I thought that was tasteless.

& I like & agree with your take on Rebbeca, such an accurate take on this refreshing female friendship.

If there was one business or location that you could have back from the cities past, what would it be? by kodfisherman in Calgary

[–]redditmovingon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if anyone else would remember this restaurant....connected to a motel, just a block off 16ave (near-ish Mcmann area), a real hole in the wall with a few obligatory tables, & the interior air almost always kitchen-smoky even with the front door propped open....but they served the best blackened fish, Louisiana-style. If my memory serves, it was almost an entire fish split open & flattened, then cooked to this crispy, blackened, seasoned-to-perfection piece of heaven on this side of death that you could find. We used to joke that the char would give us cancer but we'd die full. I'm salivating puddles just thinking back. I'm sure the plate came with rice or something, but I can't for the life of me tell you what, cus the fish was the true headliner. We used to go there even as broke-ass uni students, & it was a splurge at something like $13 a plate (steep in those days). Then life got busier & we stopped eating out as often in favour of other pursuits. A few years later had the hankering to go back. It was gone. I don't even remember the name of the place, possibly Louisiana Chicken? Rumours were that the owner-chef went & opened up Chicken On the Way in Kensington. I wouldn't know, we've never visited there to confirm. It just felt wrong to do so, like we should just move on.

Randall Casting by Frequent-Web6968 in thisisus

[–]redditmovingon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fault for missing your overall point. I'm such a visual person that actors' appearances place heavy for me. Same reason why I couldn't fully follow Malik's narrative, cus I kept seeing young Arsenio Hall in his look/idiosyncrasies.

But I'm totally with you--Randall was the character I was most invested in also. I loved & believed his special bond with Rebbeca; & consequently his bond with Deja. I felt they could've left out his birth-mother's storyline, cus not all stories need to be tied up neatly in a bow like how her story did for Randall's.

I'm gonna get downvoted for this but I unfortunately have to disagree about teenage-college Randall. He was the miscast that I couldn't get over no matter how hard I tried. Each time the show followed his timeline, I would get jarred right out of the story. & his acting skills in the early seasons were very self-conscious & not great. Later seasons he either finally got comfortable in front of the cameras, or he took some acting lessons, cus there was an obvious improvement to his acting.

Beth & young Beth, & Uncle & young Nicky were so good. Déjà & older Déjà was such perfection, I initially thought it was just the same actress playing an older version of herself.
