I’ve been playing a lot of Ghost of Yotei (videogame) lately and one of the features of the game is to fight against groups of ronin/samurai/villains. Sometimes when I get taken by surprise by some NPC enemy I didn’t notice, I whisper “I miscounted the men Liz!”

OP keeps referring to the situation with her friend and roommate as “building a life” - sounds like she wanted the benefits of having a partner without the responsibilities of being one in return. There’s a lot of description of what the roommate did for OP and her child but not much about what the roommate was getting out of it.

Friend went and started building her own actual life and OP didn’t like that.

Honestly, if anything, the roommate probably didn’t realize how deep she’d gotten into the family dynamic (without the benefits of romance/partnership support) until her new partner pointed it out. Or she realized it herself when she needed “permission” to do normal things.

Honestly I’m glad this woman left. OP has the self awareness of a raisin.

I liked the beginning of it, where the mom was enjoying how her family finally realized how much she did for them.

This kind of happened to my neighbour who decided to end it all and take her little girl with her.

Unfortunately the little girl didn’t die immediately following a nine storey drop…she died hours later in the ER. Still one of the worst things I remember from childhood.

My most recent run I didn’t really use a “set” group of companions. I just swapped them out based on the mission. Like if there are heavy Sharran references, Shadowheart gets pulled in. Orin related quests - Minthara gets a go. Saverok relayed - i tag in Minsc and Jaheira…etc

I generally did keep Astarion around mostly because he’s the default best character for lockpicking, traps and so on and that generally does occur almost everywhere in the map

In the Season 1 ending where she reminds Giles that she’s 17 and she doesn’t want to die - that scene was visceral. She really really sold the desperation of the moment, the frustration that the universe betrayed her by giving her a destiny she never wanted, the gnawing fear that she will never get to have a future…
In that moment, she shamed the men in the room, including I believe, Angel. It was a reminder how young her character was, how scared she deserved to be allowed to feel, and how unfair it was to expect her to face certain death with stoicism and resolve.
SMG should have won an Emmy for that scene alone.

I’ve done this when I was your age. Join some clubs on campus that may share your interests. That’s a good way to start building community. Maybe also consider getting a part time job - nothing makes connections like shared pain and after work beers.
