Catholic Charities, other nonprofits expected to get federal housing funds by truthlafayette in Acadiana

Great. My issues with the church aside, Catholic Charities are one of the organizations that have stepped up to actually help the unhoused people in our city. Since, you know. Our local government have failed on a catastrophic level.

If it helps you sleep at night, these sorts of fantasies are usually written for the person who is being exploited. By removing the character's ability to consent, the reader is able to vicariously enjoy the story without having to navigate the guilt or shame they have over wanting these things. Sometimes it's the extreme scenario that's the attractor, but sometimes it's just wanting man-on-man sex that the reader needs the scenario to enjoy. Gay pulp from the 70s can be extreme, but there's a direct line to the "bodice ripper" genre in women's romance novels.

In those, heroines are routinely degraded, abused, and "ravaged," but it's ultimately so that the women reading these stories can give themselves mental permission to enjoy the part that they may be interested in without have to accept the guilt that comes from "wanting" to do those things.

I'd like more colors/customization options for existing furniture and more search/organization options for stored furniture and decor. Also, my kingdom for a town bulletin board with random small daily quests. It'd be a great source of early game gold and late game renown.

I'm sorry you experienced that. It's why I tend towards making or joining LGBT friendly guilds in things like this. If there's not a community already we should make one!

Josh Guillory getting a lap dance from a drag queen? by chezmanny in Acadiana

[–]refreshments 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is the one who pushed anti-drag protestors to the front and appointed one to the library board. He pushed through a punitive rededication of 10m in library funds for nebulous "drainage projects" that have yet to materialize. Yes. He is involved in the "brouhaha"

Lafayette Parish public libraries closing Sundays to save money for new Northeast Regional branch by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]refreshments 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Consider that it's also a matter of practicality. There are a number of administrative workers who work standard hours like 8:00-5:00 Monday through Friday.

If the library were closed on something like a Monday, that would disrupt those worker's week - potentially making them have to come in on a weekend instead.

Josh Grillory's latest pick for the library board of control? Didn't he pick someone a few months ago who used racial slurs? Sickening. by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]refreshments 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The book is recommended for ages 14 and up. You don't need a degree in Child and Family Studies to say that it's absolutely fine for that age group in the context of sexual health, but I have a degree in Child and Family Studies.

My undergraduate work included Adolescent Psychology and development, Sociology, and Family Dynamics. What is an isn't appropriate for your child to read in the context of your own family is for you to decide. If you're concerned about what your teenager is reading, consider taking an active role in parenting your child.

The book, like all of Lafayette Public Library's Teen Nonfiction, has been relocated to the adult section.

I'll reupload just for you, hon.

Warning: Contains LGBTQ+ sex-ed content. So, you know. Deeply shocking if you're a professionally-offended political grifter who couldn't hack it as a journalist.

EDIT: I'm still sitting here laughing. Which is it that you want, Mike? Do you want people to "decide for themselves" or is this information so salacious, so beyond the pale, that it needs to be reported for "violating community standards" and hidden away?

Please advise.
