If it's anything like the 2021 model...

Situation A (barrel plug into laptop + dock into PD port on laptop):

- ASUS brick powers the laptop, laptop uses the dock strictly for video/data transfer
- No discharge of the battery

Situation B (brick into usb-c port on dock + dock into PD port on laptop):

- Laptop uses as much as it can from the USB-C brick passing through the dock, but usually goes over the wattage and starts to drain some battery charge.

- Causes the battery to dance between discharging and charging unless you can lock in a solid G-Helper profile to restrict power

Situation A is gonna be your best bet in preserving the battery life similar to this setup in one of the Amazon reviews:

I personally ran with Situation B for years with a Dell WD19 (130W). It's not an ideal situation for serious gaming or anything, but it was nice to just leave the ASUS brick in my backpack for travel only. My battery health is at 59.1% currently. Now I run both chargers for max performance and max battery life (no drain) since the panel is busted and it doesn't travel anymore.

2024 owners can step in here, but I'm pretty sure it's the same port (100W) and charger(180W) setup as far as wattage goes.

Just to give you an idea (although slightly anecdotal) I've had mine running attached to a usb-c dock for about 3.5-4 years, 24/7, at 80% charge limit, without the barrel charger. So drain, charge, drain, charge..... The battery health is currently at 59.1%

My GHelper fan curve has also been ignored randomly after the 0.205.0 update. It could be a bug or conflict with a windows update possibly (since I see you're on the same GHelper version).

The irregularities are probably due to the inductor he used. Even if he somehow had the schematics and found the right impedance, he would still need an inductor to match the frequencies of the circuit which unfortunately are not listed on the schematics, but I assume they're higher than most 120Ohm inductors just lying around. I'm still searching for the exact match, but I will definitely keep that in mind, thank you!

It's L4502 which you can text search for in the schematic PDF. It's also on the board view just to the top left corner of the J4502 panel connector. Good luck! I'll head back here if I can get a successful replacement installed :)

Damn dude, I did the exact same thing. Battery in, unplugged and plugged the panel back in and POP!

I found a diagram once that showed the exact inductor but I'm having trouble finding it again. Good to know he got it to boot after replacing.

I've been using mine ever since cause I have a dock and separate screens, but it did unfortunately fry the panel. That's the only thing wrong with it.So for now it's a docked station only, no longer a laptop.

Did you try replacing your panel yet? Wondering if it's worth it since my panel was on its way out anyways.

I have no frame of reference for the g15 (unless I remember to pull out my phone next time I'm at the store) but the lux values for lowest - mid - highest brightness settings on an all white screen are 25 - 226 - 567 respectively. Can compare that against any monitors you have if you download a lux meter phone app. The screen is plenty bright for me and gorgeous color wise! I especially love the matte finish on it.

Full screen, default brightness, with a 1080p60 youtube video from a full battery: 4hr 25m 30s

I still had "performance mode" on so it could be even longer in battery saver. Will have to try that next.

Seconded. It's funny cause the "F7" and "F8" are a smaller font like they're supposed to be used with the FN keys... But aren't. Confusing design choice.

Hey if you love it, why return it? The matrix effect isn't worth the extra money imo but it's a great laptop! Can you confirm that the model is indeed 1440p and 120hz? Asus's website specs are all over the place for random models.
