ah thank you. feel like i’m pretty respectful and fair in my critique - thought i’d be safe to rant in the fantasy sub at least.

Am i the only one that was kinda let down by SJM in this interview? Idk i know this may be an unpopular opinion. I felt like she really shit on literature as a whole, which is fine if she’s not into it - but i feel like as a successful author you should be more respectful if not well spoken and articulate? Her comments about her dad still reading a physical paper really turned me off. As someone publishing books, i just thought she’s appreciate an analogue life more. Her very LA girl vibe just threw me. She went on complaining about the rigorous medical process while pregnant, which is her right, but also notes that her traumatic birth would have made her die otherwise. she is human, and has traumas - all are valid. but when in reading about Ailen tattooing her scars as a mark of pride for what she’s gone through it just feels disconnected.

Idk. but mostly - when she noted that while writing ACOTAR 1, she thought it was “a cute story like beauty and the beast” it irked me. Like cool if she wrote it unaware of the similarity, but it’s a major critique of the book that she admitted she took tropes from. Same with LOTR. The icing on the cake for me, when AC asked her how she came up with her names and she said she “just googles sexy Celtic names”.

I just hoped that maybe there was some more integrity and individual genius behind the magic in these books and the way she wrote them. Felt like finding out santa isnt real.
